Nicholas J. Loutsch, 91 of Sioux City, Iowa passed away unexpectedly at Unity Point St. Luke’s Hospital in Sioux City, Iowa on Friday May 11, 2018.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 17, 2018 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen, with Fr. William McCarthy officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Cemetery in Remsen. Visitation with family present will be 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, with rosary and vigil prayer service at 5 p.m., at Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen, IA. Nicholas was born in Remsen, Iowa on February 14, 1927, the son of Michael and Claire Loutsch. He attended Remsen High School. Nick started working on the farm when he was young and continued to enjoy farming and took various farm jobs from neighbors to help out at home. He then went to work at Swift’s Packing House where he retired after 33 years. While at Swift’s, he came back to the farm life when his father became ill. He and his brother took over the farm duties and eventually he bought the farm and another 40 acres. He continued farming and working at Swift’s for numerous years. When he retired at Swift’s he continued farming until his eye sight started going bad.

On Jan 28, 1961, he married Bernice Peterson in Sioux City and they had a son they named Terry.

Nicholas enjoyed being around people very much. He loved spending time in casinos until his eye sight started to worsen. He loved having a few beers with his friends, dancing, and farming. He really enjoyed conversing with others about how the crops were doing. He especially enjoyed visiting his son, daughter-in-law and his grandchildren during the holidays. After eating he would have his usual nap.

He is survived by his son and his wife, Terry and Melonie of Sioux City; and four grandchildren, Meghan, Morgan, Joshua and Brady. three sisters, Carol Loutsch and Marlene Pinney of Sioux City, Iowa and Mary Marsh of LeMars, Iowa; two brothers Jimmy Loutsch of Le Mars, Iowa and Marvin Loutsch from LeMars, Iowa

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and his brother, Arnold Loutsch.

Casket bearers will be, Joshua Schilousky, Jerome Montagne, Dave DeLapp, Lonnie Pinney, Chuck Parmalee, and Brian Kilker.

Honorary bearers will be, Kenny Kilker, Donnie Loutsch, Richard Sopoci and Mark Schroeder.
