Wayne Edward Maass

Wayne Edward Maass, 81 of Paullina, IA, passed away Saturday, Dec. 9, 2017 at his home near Paullina.

Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 14, 2017 at Christ Lutheran Church LCMS in Remsen with Pastor Dennis Martens officiating. Burial will follow in Liberty Township Cemetery near Calumet, IA. Visitation with family present will be from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. all at the church. Visitation will resume from 9 a.m. until service time Thursday at the church. Services have been entrusted to Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen.

Wayne was born May 3, 1936 to Frank and Marie (Erichsen) Maass of Remsen, Iowa. He attended country school until 6th grade and graduated from Remsen High School in 1954. Wayne was enlisted in the Army from 1956-1958. Most of the time was spent in Germany where he met his good friend George Tatum of Kansas.

Wayne married Faye Mugge in 1959. They raised 6 children , Kevin, Leanne, Doug, Amy, Barry and Paul on their farm near Calumet. After a long battle with breast cancer, Faye passed away in 1985. Wayne was united in marriage in 1987 to Judith Haack, who was originally from Remsen but spent most of her life in California. They lived in Los Angeles. Wayne and daughter Kendall started All-N-One Legal Support and Kendall continues to run the business today.

Emmet Wolf got Wayne into 4-H which changed his life. Wayne had a great love of raising Chester White hogs and Angus cattle. He exhibited champion livestock in many states. Wayne and his brother Roy had Grand Champion steer in Chicago in 1959. The steer sold for $24,600 and they split the money to start farming. Maass Angus is still raising and selling Angus cattle today. Wayne enjoyed helping young 4-Hers. He was a 4-H leader for 25 years and always a strong supporter of 4-H. Wayne also had a passion for soil conservation and received many awards for his efforts. He hosted the O’Brien County outdoor classroom for 12 years.

Wayne always had a strong belief in Jesus Christ and was an active church member. Wayne was so thankful for his wonderful life and many blessings, especially for his outstanding family.

He was preceded in death by his parents Frank & Marie Maass, wife Faye Mugge Maass, daughter Leanne Maass Rahbusch, granddaughter Rebecca Rahbusch, sisters Dorothy Maass Robinson, Helen Maass Bottjen, brother Roy Maass and stepson Jeffrey Lewis.

Left to mourn are his wife Judith and children Kevin & Lee, Kendall, Doug & Sue, Amy & Dave, Barry & Susie, Paul & Julie, 19 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, sister Ruth Anderson, brother Elmer Maass and his wife Alma, sister and brother in law JoAnn and Bob Meyer. He is also survived by Greg Paulsen and Joe Smith, farm crew as well as All-N -One Legal Support staff, his cousin and best friend Kenneth & Bethene Maass, his best friends, George and Nell Tatum, Pat & Cindy Romero as well as many other relatives and friends.

Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Wayne Maass memorial fund which will be used to support 4H and the O’Brien County Fair.
