Audrey Sudtelgte, 82, of Remsen died Saturday, March 8, 2014, at Happy Siesta Health Care Center in Remsen, IA.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen, with the Rev. William McCarthy officiating and Deacon Rick Roder assisting. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation will be after 4 p.m. Tuesday, with a parish rosary at 5 p.m. a vigil prayer service at 7 p.m. all at the Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen.
Audrey was born Oct. 11 1931, at Paullina, IA, the daughter of Carl and Dorthea (Nielsen) Howe. She was raised and educated at Paullina graduating from Paullina High School in 1950.
On August 8, 1950, she married Earl Sudtelgte at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sutherland, IA. They made their home near Remsen where they farmed until retiring on the farm in 1988. Earl died Sept. 29, 2000. Two years later she had met her special friend Bill Rogers. Bill died April 2012. Audrey continued to live on the farm until Feb. 17, 2014 and then moved into Happy Siesta Health Care Center.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and church guild. She enjoyed spending their winters in California starting in 1984 with her husband Earl and then continued after his death with her special friend Bill until 2011. Audrey enjoyed reading, traveling, bird watching and her family.
Survivors include her seven children, Mark Sudtelgte and his fiancé Bev Homan of Remsen, Marlene (Curt) Sitzmann of LeMars, IA, Paul (Deb) of Colorado Springs, CO, Ann (Terry) Johnson of Colorado Springs, CO, John (Patty) of Payson, AZ, Dave (Debbie) of Tampa, FL, Ken (Connie) of Remsen; 17 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren on the way; 1 great-great-granddaughter; one sister, Velora Darling of Lancaster, CA.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one grandson, Pat Sitzmann, one great-grandson, Derek Penning, one daughter-in-law, JoAnn Sudtelgte, four sisters, Gladys (Del) Warnke, Elaine (Walter) Bern, Lila (Ed) Limke and Goldie (Gaylord) Kelley; one brother, Allan (Tess) Howe, one brother-in-law, Del Darling.
Casket bearers will be six of her children, Marlene, Paul, Ann, John, Dave and Ken.
