Carl Joseph Kestel

Carl Joseph Kestel, 93, of Remsen, died Monday, June 6, 2011 at his home in Remsen, Iowa.
      Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, June 9, 2011, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen with Rev. William McCarthy officiating.  Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Cemetery in Remsen.  Friends may call anytime after 4 p.m. on Wednesday, June 8, 2011.  There will be a parish rosary at 5 p.m. and a vigil prayer service at 6:30 p.m. all at Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen.
      Carl was born on April 29, 1918, the son of Frank & Theresa (Niehus) Kestel. He was raised & educated in the Remsen area graduating in 1936 from St. Mary’s Catholic High School in Remsen. 
      On Sept. 8, 1941 he married Mildred Tentinger at Remsen.  The couple made their home north of Remsen where they farmed for over 40 years.  They moved into Remsen in 1985. Mildred died Jan. 25, 1988.
      Carl was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church & Knights of Columbus.  Carl enjoyed his yearly fishing trip to Minnesota, family celebrations and the many friends who visited him at his home in Remsen.
      Survivors include; One son, Ty Kestel & his wife Carol of Omaha, NE; Four daughters, Pam Phillips & her husband Rick of Omaha, NE, Laurie Moore & her husband Tom of Ames, IA, Lisa Antley & her husband Mills of Morganton, NC, Kristin Wetzeler & her husband Bill of Spirit Lake, IA; 12 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren. Two brothers, Harold Kestel & his wife Val of Storm Lake, IA & Francis “Bud” Kestel & his wife Bonnie of New Hampton, IA; Three sisters, Mary Ann Flynn of North Carolina, Cleo Lord & her husband Charles of Des Moines, IA, Lorna Pick of Omaha, NE.
      Preceded by: his parents, one brother Gil Kestel & one sister Ethel Wesselmann.
      Casket Bearers will be: Ty Kestel, Rick Phillips, Tom Moore, Mills Antley, Bill Wetzeler & Mark Phillips.
