Carol Jean Pick

November 30, 1935 — March 8, 2013

Carol Jean Pick, 77, of Remsen, died Friday, March 8, 2013, surrounded by her family, at Floyd Valley Hospital in LeMars, IA, after fighting cancer for 3 ½ years.
        Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen with Rev. William McCarthy and Deacon Rick Roder officiating.  Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Cemetery in Remsen.   Visitation will be anytime after 3 p.m. on Monday, March 11, 2013.  There will be a parish rosary at 5 p.m. and a vigil prayer service at 7 p.m. all at Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen.
        Carol was born Nov. 30, 1935 in Alton, IA, the youngest daughter of John and Susan (Mousel) Pottebaum.  She was raised and educated in the Alton area.  She graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in 1953.  She then attended St. Josephs School of Nursing in Mankato, MN in 1954.
        On Aug. 24, 1955 she was united in marriage to Daniel J. Pick at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton.  The couple spent 57 years of marriage in Remsen.  She worked as a nurse over the years at Sacred Heart Hospital and Brentwood Good Samaritan Nursing Home both in LeMars, and Happy Siesta Health Care Center in Remsen. 
        Carol was a member of St. Mary’s Church & church guild.  She loved spending time with her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She enjoyed playing the piano, cards, visiting, golf, shuffle board, bean bags and any game she could play with other people.  She enjoyed caring for the elderly and loved working at Happy Siesta.  Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of her life.  She also enjoyed spending her summers at Lake Okoboji, and winters in Texas.
        Survivors include, her husband Daniel of Remsen; six children, Roger (Paula) Pick of Harlan, IA, Mike (Melinda) Pick, Ray (Lori) Pick both of Ankeny, IA, Kevin Pick of Lebanon, OH, Linda (Damon) Alvey of Scotland, SD, Brian (Lori) Pick of Omaha, NE;  19 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Irma Dreckman of Pipestone, MN, and Armella Homan of Remsen; Several Brothers and sisters-in-law; Numerous Nieces and nephews.
        Carol was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Marcene Cole and Mildred De Lateur; five brothers, Ferd, Bernard, John, Cecil and Dick Pottebaum; two Bischon dogs, Jessie and Snookie, who were part of the family.
        Casket bearers will be, Ryan, Jeff, Nathan and Rob Pick, Greg Keen, Brian Flynn.
