Christine Helen Meis

Christine Helen Meis, 88 years old, of LeMars, IA died Wednesday, March 9, 2011, at Floyd Valley Hospital in LeMars, IA. 
      Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 12, 2011, at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Oyens with Rev. William McCarthy.  Burial will be in the St. Catherine’s Catholic Cemetery in Oyens.  Visitation will be anytime after 2 p.m. on Friday, March 11, 2011.  There will be a parish rosary at 3 p.m. and a vigil prayer service at 7 p.m. at Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen.
      Christine was born on July 1, 1922, at rural LeMars, IA, the daughter of Frank & Susan (Rodenbour) Plendl.  She was raised and educated in the LeMars area and received her education in the rural school system.  .
      On Nov. 25, 1941 she married Arthur Meis at Oyens.  The couple made their home near Oyens where they were engaged in farming.  In 1957 she began working at the Kohoot cap factory in their LeMars location and then at their Orange City location.  The couple also retired from farming in 1961 when they turned over the operation to their son Marvin.
      Christine was a member of St. Catherine’s Catholic Church, Church Guild & Christian Mothers.
      Survivors include: Two sons, Dennis and his wife Janice, Paul and his wife Kathy all of LeMars, IA; Two daughters, Kathleen Schumann and her husband Edward of Brainerd, MN, Diane Dunham of Marshalltown, IA; 15 grandchildren, 1 step-granddaughter, 17 great-grandchildren; Two sisters-in-law, Rita Plendl of Minneapolis, MN, Shirley Plendl of LeMars, IA; Numerous nieces and nephews.         
      Preceded in death by, her parents; her husband Art on Jan. 13, 2011, one son, Marvin; one grandson, Dean Meis;  One son-in-law, Edward Dunham; Three brothers, Roman Plendl & his wife Isabele, Virgil & John Plendl, Two sisters-in-law, Angeline Meis and Mathilda Meis;; One brother-in-law, Joseph and his wife Elizabeth Meis. 
      Casket Bearers will be: Jon Dunham, Randy & Clint Schumann, Jared, Ryan & Jamie Meis.
