Dale Arnold Mousel

March 4, 1940 — November 23, 2021

Dale Arnold Mousel, age 81of Alton, Iowa passed away Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2021 at his home in Alton. 

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30a.m. Saturday, Nov. 27, 2021, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton, with Father Daniel Greving officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Alton. Graveside military honors will be conducted by Floyd Post 200 American Legion of Alton.  Visitation with family present will be 4-7 p.m. on Friday, there will be a Knights of Columbus rosary and vigil prayer service at 5 p.m. all at the church, Hawkeye attire encouraged.  Visitation will resume one hour before the service on Saturday at the church.  

Dale was born on March 4, 1940 to Clarence & Viola (Van Bergen) Mousel. He was raised on a farm near Alton. He received education from St. Mary’s Academy in Alton, graduating in 1958.  He enlisted in the Army National Guard on Feb. 22, 1958 and served until July 21, 1960.   

He married Clarice Augustine on May 12, 1962 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen and was married for 52 years.  Dale worked at Silent Sioux Corp.  He was also a self-employed painter, and worked at Diamond Vogel for over 30 years before his retirement.  

Dale was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and Floyd Post 200 American Legion of Alton.  He loved reading and watching Westerns, He enjoyed going out for supper with his friends.  He loved fishing, hunting, golf, playing cards and dominos. Dale loved his children and grandchildren. Dale enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren’s sporting events and school activities with his soul mate Clarice, especially baseball. He liked to root for the Chicago Cubs and Iowa Hawkeyes. 

Survivors include his four children, Cathy Mousel Omaha, NE, Ann Mehrer Hinton, IA, Barb (Les) Hansen, Alton, IA, Matt (Gina) Mousel Rock Valley, IA, his English Daughter Lyndsey Harley; 9 grandchildren, Mitchell, Ben and Rebecca Feller, Michael (Krysta), Joe (Danika) Mehrer, Morgan (James) Wright, Zac (Jenna), Lucas Mousel, Alexis (Justin) Severson; two step-grandchildren, Breanne (Jacob) Pottebaum and Karissa Horstman; 12 ½ great-grandchildren; his siblings, Harriett Fritz of Orange City IA, Annette (Bob) Hall of Manitou Beach MI, Tom Mousel of Mesa AZ, Gary (Donna) Mousel of Le Mars IA; two sisters-in-law, Dode Konz of Alton IA, and Kay Augustine of Remsen IA; five brothers-in-law; Tom Augustine of Remsen, IA, Wayne (Kathy) Augustine of Remsen, IA, Dick (Nancy) Augustine of Dakota Dunes, SD, Dan (Mary) Augustine of Dakota Dunes, SD and Mike (Janet) Augustine of Sioux City, IA. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Clarice, one grandson Luke Mehrer, brothers Milton and Francis Mousel, step-mother, Genevieve Mousel, mother and father-in-law Joseph & Alvina Augustine, six brothers-in-law, Floyd Fritz, Jerry Augustine, Ralph (Cleon) Augustine, Bill (Jo) Augustine, Monsignor Roger Augustine and Pete Konz; one sister-in-law, Sandy Augustine. 

Casket bearers will be Mitchell and Ben Feller, Michael and Joe Mehrer, Zac and Luc Mousel.
