Dale Joseph Galles, 76, of Marcus, Iowa passed away on Friday, Oct. 9, 2020 from injuries sustained in a farming accident at MercyOne Siouxland Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2020 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen, IA with Father William McCarthy officiating and Father Andrew Galles concelebrating. Masks will be required and social distancing restrictions will be followed in the church. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Remsen, IA. Graveside military honors will be conducted by American Legion Wasmer Post 241 of Le Mars, IA, VFW Post 3328 and American Legion Post 220 of Remsen. Visitation with the family present, keeping to social distancing restrictions will be 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen. Visitation will resume 1 hour before the service on Wednesday at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent online and the funeral can be watched live at www.fischfh.com.
Dale was born Sept. 25, 1944, to Milton & Arlene (Konz) Galles at Le Mars, IA. They lived northwest of Marcus from 1944 to 1945. In 1945 they moved to 11 miles northeast of Granville until 1948. They then moved to 3 ½ miles east of Struble for 2 years. Dale started kindergarten at a country school which was across the road from where they lived. In 1951 they moved 8 miles northeast of Remsen and this eventually became the home place for Milton and his family. Dale finished kindergarten at another country school which was also across the road from where they lived at Remsen. Dale then attended St. Mary’s Catholic School graduating in 1962. At age 17 he joined the US Army National Guard in Le Mars. After that he returned home to farm with his father and brother, Donnie. He moved to a family farm 1 ½ miles west of Marcus in mid-1960’s.
On April 8, 1972 he married Rosalie Evans at St. Catherine Catholic Church in Oyens, IA. The couple made their home on a farm near Marcus. Over the years he raised crops, livestock, did custom combining, custom trucking and was a seed corn dealer.
He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 4th degree Knights of Columbus and American Legion Wasmer Post 241 in Le Mars. He enjoyed fishing, the coffee shop family, his 1955 Chevy pickup and his 1929 Case tractor. He also volunteered at collecting cardboard for the St. Mary’s Recycling Center and he was an avid blood donor for Life Serve Blood Center. Dale was so proud of his three grandchildren and enjoyed every minute with them, having them help farm or attending their school events.
Survivors include his wife, Rosalie of Marcus, IA; his children, Brenda Galles and special friend Todd Osterbuhr of Le Mars, IA, Matt (Stacey) Galles and their three children, Kaden, Karsen and Kenten of Remsen, IA; his siblings, Mary Block of Sioux City, IA, Marilyn (Terry) Bunkers of Remsen, IA, Audrey (Gilbert) Weiler of Remsen, IA, Carol (Gary) Christoffel of Granville, IA, Bonnie (Stanley) Meyer of Ireton, IA, Laurie (Alan) Schroeder of Granville, IA and Karen (Randy) Portz of Cumming, GA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Milton & Arlene, his brother, Donald Galles, brother-in-law Pete Block, nieces Anita Rodgers and Angel Bunkers, nephews, Brent Weiler and Dustin Christoffel.
Casket bearers will be, Max Treinen, Marty Irwin, Jeremy Ahlers, Phil Ahlers, Ray Evans and Jerry Galles.
Honorary bearers will be members of the 4th degree Knights of Columbus.
