Daniel Herman Ahlers

Daniel Herman Ahlers, 67 of Remsen, IA passed away Sunday, Nov. 15, 2015 at his home near Remsen, IA.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, Nov. 19, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen, IA with Rev. William McCarthy officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Remsen, IA. Graveside military honors will be conducted by V.F.W. Post 3328 and American Legion Post 220 of Remsen. Visitation will be anytime after 4 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2015. There will be a parish rosary at 5 p.m. and a vigil prayer service at 7 p.m. followed by a Catholic Order of Foresters Rosary, all at Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen. Services have been entrusted to the Fisch Funeral Home & Monument of Remsen.
Dan was born April 2, 1948, at LeMars, IA the son of Clarence and Norma (Ludwig) Ahlers. He was raised and educated in Remsen. He attended St. Mary’s High School and graduated in 1966. He then enlisted in the Army National Guard and did his basic training at Ft. Lewis Washington. In May of 1968 he was activated to service in Ft. Carson, Colorado. In Nov. 1969 he returned home and has been actively engaged in farming ever since. He was discharged from the National Guard Jan. 29, 1973. Danny lived on the family farm with his parents and was the primary caregiver for them which enabled them to reside on the farm until their passing. His love and dedication to his parents was a blessing and a comfort to the rest of his family.
Danny was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and Catholic Order of Foresters. He enjoyed boating, fishing, Canoeing, Apple River trips, snowmobiling, bowling, but farming was his lifelong passion.
Survivors include; his three brothers, Fred (Faye) Ahlers, David (Lynn) Ahlers, Phil (Teryl) Ahlers all of Remsen; three sisters, Margaret Mary Tucker of Enfield, NH, Christine (Scott) Nielsen of Remsen and Barbara (Dennis) Henrich of LeMars, IA; several nieces and nephews and a great niece and nephew; his uncle, Edward Ahlers of Granville, IA; two aunts, Rita Theisen of Canby, MN and Clara Ahlers of Granville, IA.
Preceded by: his parents, one nephew, Michael Ahlers.
Casket Bearers will be Justin and Christopher Nielsen, Jeremy Ahlers, Erin Pick, Nicole and Derek Ahlers, Holly Tucker and Ann Heerde.
Honorary Bearers will be Doug Tucker, David Heerde.
Catholic Order of Forester honorary bearers will be Gerald Staab, Jim Heidesch, Wayne Schnepf, Max Treinen.
