Denis L. Sudtelgte

March 13, 1929 — January 15, 2013

Denis L. Sudtelgte, 83 years old, of Alton, IA passed away Tuesday Jan. 15, 2013 at The Abbey in LeMars, IA. 
        Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Jan. 18, 2013, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen with Rev. William McCarthy officiating, assisted by Deacon Rick Roder.  Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Cemetery in Remsen.  Graveside Military Honors will be conducted by VFW Post 3328 and American Legion Post 220 of Remsen.  Visitation will be anytime after 4 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013.  There will be a parish rosary at 5 p.m. and a vigil prayer service at 7 p.m., all at Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen.
        Denis was born on March 13, 1929, on the family farm north of Remsen, IA, the son Bernard “Ben” & Margaret (Ehlinger) Sudtelgte.  He was raised and educated near Remsen.  He attended country school first & second grades in Fredonia Township.  He then attended St. Mary’s School in Remsen.  In 1948 he started farming with his brother Earl.  In Sept. 20, 1951 he was drafted in the U.S. Army.  He was sent to serve in the Korean War.  He was honorably discharged June 19, 1953.
       In 1956 he moved south of Alton in Sioux County to farm on his own.  He lived there until July 2011.  He then went to Floyd House Assisted Living in Sergeant Bluff, IA until July 2012.  With failing health he then moved into The Abby of LeMars.
        When Denis was young he enjoyed pheasant hunting & fishing.  He also loved old time dancing at Shore Acres at North Sioux City, IA.
        Survivors include: a sister-in-law, Mrs. Earl (Audrey) Sudtelgte of Remsen; Numerous nieces & nephews.
        Preceded in death by, his parents, four brothers & their wives, Cletus (Marie), Justin (Iona), James (Mildred), & Earl Sudtelgte, one sister, Vivian (Roman) Shea.
        Casket bearers will be, Mike Shea, Duane, Mark, Ken, Rick & Steve Sudtelgte.
