Donald John Schnepf

Donald John Schnepf, age 85, of Oyens, IA passed away suddenly on Thursday, Feb. 4, 2021 at Floyd Valley Health Care in Le Mars, IA. 

Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m., Monday, Feb. 8, 2021, at All Saints Parish - St. Joseph Catholic Church in Le Mars with Father Bruce Lawler officiating and Deacon Paul Gengler assisting.  Masks are required and social distancing guidelines will be followed. Burial will follow at the St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Oyens, IA.  Graveside military honors will be conducted by American Legion Wasmer Post 241.  Visitation with family present will be 2:30p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday with a vigil prayer service at 5 p.m. all at the church.  Visitation will resume 1 hour before the funeral on Monday at the church.  Services have been entrusted to Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen.  The funeral will be livestreamed at www.allsaintslemars.org 

Donald was born Oct. 22, 1935 at LeMars, IA, the son of Vincent & Mathilda (Ruppert) Schnepf.  He was raised and educated in the LeMars area, graduating from LeMars Central High School in 1954.  He then worked as a mechanic for several years in LeMars before moving to California.  In 1958 he was drafted into the U.S. Army, serving two years as a Specialist 4th Class. 

On Oct. 28, 1959 he married Pearl Schwebach at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton, IA.  The couple made their home near Oyens, IA and they opened the Oyens DX in 1961.  They continued to raised their family and own and operate the DX until retiring in 1997. 

Don enjoyed restoring antique tractors, driving cars for dealers and participating in tractor rides with his grandson David.  He was a member of All Saints Parish-St. Joseph Church in LeMars, past member of St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Oyens, Knights of Columbus, American Legion Wasmer Post 241 in LeMars and the Men’s Club of St. Catherine.  He was also a volunteer for 36 years on the Oyens Fire Department, Ambulance Crew and was a past city councilman. He also loved attending his grandchildren’s activities. 

Survivors include, his wife, Pearl of Oyens; five children, Sandra (Kelly) Fitzpatrick of Beaverton, OR, Kathryn (Garry) Gengler of LeMars, IA, Mary (Dave) Suntken of Orange City, IA, Kim (John) Livermore of LeMars, IA and Steve (Lisa) Schnepf of LeMars, IA; 14 grandchildren; Brad (Kate) Fitzpatrick, Ryan (Stephanie) Fitzpatrick, Cole (Katrina) Fitzpatrick, David, Jessica and Brian (Caitlin) Gengler, Kevin (Breannah), Cody (Raven) Suntken and Molly Suntken, Briana and Justin Livermore, Alison (Colby) Snyder, MacKenzie and Rylee Schnepf; 8 great-grandchildren; one sister, Carol Yoka of Lodi, CA; seven brothers-in-law, Paul (Bernice) Schwebach, Richard (Gin) Schwebach, Rodney (Marlys) Schwebach, Larry (Patsy) Schwebach, Walt (Joann) Schwebach, Steve (Lorna) Schwebach and Leon (Nancy) Schwebach; six sisters-in-law, Helen St. Peter, Rose Mary Wald, Theresa Bunts, Donna (Dennis) Ailts, Charlene (Dennis) Titus, Lorraine (Bart) Marshall, and many nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by, his parents, one daughter, Kelli Sue Schnepf, 2 sisters, June Doud and Janet Sorgdrager, parents-in-law, Theodore (Nathalia) Schwebach, 2 brothers-in-law, Marvin and David Schwebach. 

Casket bearers will be his grandsons. 

Honorary bearers will be his granddaughters.
