Emily Magdalen Schroeder, 93, of Marcus, IA, died Friday, Sept. 7, 2018 at her home in Marcus, IA.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2018 at Holy Name Catholic Church in Marcus with Father William McCarthy officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Alton, IA. Visitation with family present will be 4-7 p.m. Monday. There will be a rosary and vigil prayer service all at 5 p.m. at Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen. Visitation will resume 1 hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the church in Marcus.
Emily was born March 6, 1925 in Alton, IA, the daughter of Bernard & Emma (Konz) Minten. She was raised in Alton and received her educated in Granville and Alton, graduating from St. Mary’s Academy in Alton in 1942.
She married Richard Schroeder on June 30, 1947 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton. The couple made their home in Sioux City where she worked at Wincharger and also was a waitress in Sioux City. They moved to Alton and she worked at Westmar University in LeMars. The couple then moved to Marcus where she worked at Happy Siesta in Remsen and K Products in Marcus.
Emily was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church, VFW Auxiliary in Remsen, Catholic Daughters and St. Ann Guild in Marcus. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren & great-grandchildren. She enjoyed gardening, writing letters, making scrapbooks and photo albums for the family.
Survivors include her children, Richard (Deb) Schroeder of Belle Plaine, MN, Loren (Sandy) Schroeder of Pasco, WA, Donita Harris of Pine River, MN, Marjean (Mark) Nacke and Michelle (Ken) Wurth all of Remsen, IA. 18 grandchildren, Chuck (Dawn) Winter, Jennifer (Steve) Winter, Chad Schroeder, Jessica (Mike) Nagel, Mick Schroeder, Neil Schroeder, Mindy (Trever) Butricks, Cassie (Aaron) Nelson, David Harris , Lori (Amos) Roller, Amy (Casey) Penning, Melissa (Kenny) Klein, Stacy (Justin) Pick, Ashley (Kyle) Frericks, Shaina (Zach) Reuter, Melanie (Kevin) Klein, Brian (Michon) Wurth and Matt Wurth; 35 great-grandchildren; her siblings, Don (Mary Jean) Minten of Alton, IA, Mick (Nancy) Minten of Beckville, TX, Marilee (Bob) Elliott of Richfield, MN.
She was preceded in death by her parents; Richard Schroeder Feb. 21, 2013, daughter, Lonna Schroeder, sisters, Bernadine (Jim) Christoffel, Kathleen (Milo) Harnack, son-in-law, Marlen Harris.
Casket bearers will be, Brian & Matt Wurth, David Harris, Casey Penning, Kenny Klein & Chad Schroeder.
