Emmett J. Ahlers, 75 years old, of Granville, IA, died Thursday, January 20, 2011, at Orange City Area Health System in Orange City, IA, after a brief illness. 
      Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Monday, January 24, 2011, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Granville with Rev. Richard D. Ball officiating.  Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.   Friends may call anytime after 4 p.m. on Sunday, January 23, 2011.  There will be a parish rosary at 5 p.m., and a vigil prayer service at 7 p.m., all at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Granville.  Services have been entrusted to Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen.
      Emmett was born August 29, 1935, at rural Granville, IA, the son of William P. & Mary (Schwarz) Ahlers.  He was raised and educated in the Granville area and was then engaged in farming with his parents. On Oct. 30, 1956 he joined the U. S. Marines, served two years of active duty, and on Oct. 29, 1958, was released from active duty and returned to farming with his parents at Granville. He was honorably discharged on Oct. 29, 1962. On May 28, 1960, he married Mary Ann Burlage at Elkton, SD. They made their home near Granville and in Jan. 1961, moved to the Ahlers family farm. In the mid 1970’s he established Ahlers Trucking in addition to farming. He retired from farming in the mid 1980’s, but continued trucking until 2010.
      Emmett was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
      Survivors include; his wife, Mary Ann of Granville; 3 Sons, Steve of Nashville, TN, Dave of Sioux City, IA, Tom and his wife Sandra of Granville; 2 Daughters and their husbands, Cathy and Roger Hansen of Olathe, KS, Christy and Dale Kellen of Princeton, MO; 9 Grandchildren, Adam, Nicole and Samantha Hansen, Victor, Claire, Nicholas and Kennedy Kellen, Nichole and Alex Lange; 4 Sisters, Florence Ahlers and Lucille Schumacher both of Granville, Ruth Green of Canton, MI, Clarice and her husband Ray Heller of Milford, IA.
      Preceded by: his parents, 2 Brothers-in-law, A. J. Schumacher and Dent Green.
      Casket Bearers: Steve, Dave and Tom Ahlers, Roger Hansen, Dale Kellen Adam Hansen.
      In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Home Health Hospice through Orange City Health System.
