Geraldine Frances Wilberding

Geraldine “Gerry”  Wilberding, 83 years old, of Remsen, IA died Tuesday, July 5, 2011, at Happy Siesta Health Care Center in Remsen.        Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 8, 2011, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen with Rev. William McCarthy officiating.  Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Remsen. Visitation will be anytime after 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 7, 2011.  There will be a parish rosary at 3 p.m. and a vigil prayer service at 7:30 all at Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen.      Gerry was born on May 9, 1928, at rural Cleghorn, IA the daughter of Louis & Elizabeth (Glassmaker) Bauer.  She was raised in the Maryhill area and attended grade school at Visitation Grade School at Maryhill.  She graduated from Cleghorn High School in 1947.  After high school she worked for the phone company in Cherokee.      On Jan. 24, 1950, she married Alfred Wilberding at Maryhill, IA. The couple made their home on a farm north of Marcus where they lived for 35 years.  In 1984 the couple retired from farming and moved into Remsen.  In Sept. 2010 they moved to Bavarian Meadows Assisted living in Remsen.  Alfred died March 25, 2011.  She then moved to Happy Siesta Health Care Center on June 30, 2011.      Gerry was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church & church guild, past member of the Catholic Daughters of America & hobby club.  She loved to make quilts, knit, crochet, do crafts, gardening, play cards & read.  She was a wonderful cook!      Survivors include: her son Paul Wilberding & his wife Joan of Marcus, IA; her daughter, JoAnn Tentinger & her husband Chuck of Remsen; Eight grandchildren, Matt Wilberding & his wife Ashley of Laramie, WY, Katie Cross & her husband Steve of Denver, CO, Jessica Wilberding of Iowa City, IA and her fiancé Adrian Suarez Delgado, Briana, Abby & Bethany Wilberding of Marcus, IA; Nick Tentinger of Remsen & Amy Tentinger of Omaha, NE; One brother, Vernon Bauer of Cleghorn, IA; Three sisters, Bernice Dickson & her husband Bill of Carroll, IA, Dorothy O’Meara of Spencer, IA, Alice Speers & her husband Don of Storm Lake, IA; Three Sisters-in-law, Anne Wilberding of Meriden, IA, Helen Flaherty of LeMars, Peg Wilberding of Melrose, IA; Numerous nieces & nephews.      Preceded in death by, her parents, four brothers-in-law, Jim O’Meara, Lawrence & Ray Wilberding, Leo Flaherty.      Casket bearers will be; Nick & Amy Tentinger, Matt & Briana Wilberding, Katie Cross, Jessica Wilberding & Adrian Suarez Delgado.
