Harry "Bud" Kahl

Harry “Bud” Kahl, 84 years old, of Remsen, IA, died Sunday, Oct. 4, 2009, at his home in Remsen. 
            Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2009, at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Remsen with Rev. Craig Miller officiating.  Burial will be in the Remsen Community Cemetery.  Friends may call anytime after 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2009.  There will be a prayer service at 7 p.m.  all at the Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen.  Visitation will resume Wednesday morning from 9a.m. until service time at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Remsen.  Graveside military honors will be conducted by VFW Post 3328 & American Legion Post 220 both of Remsen.  Fisch Funeral Home & Monument of Remsen is in charge of arrangements.
            Casketbearers will be Wayne Behrens, Craig Christman, Ken Dines, Tom Letsche, Frank Harvey, Dennis Poeckes & David Tilbury.
            Bud was born June 29, 1925 on the family farm near Remsen, IA, the son of Harry & Margret (Grage) Kahl.  Bud grew up there on the family farm south east of Remsen.  He attended country school and started his life farming with his mother Margret, brother Henry & sister Hulda. In 1950 Bud was drafted into the U.S. Army and was stationed in Colorado.  After his discharge from the Army Bud came back to Iowa and continued farming.
            On May 26, 1979 he married Sharon Ahrens of Lakefield, MN and moved to a farm just west of the family farm and continued farming.  Bud also worked for the Klingbeil Mink Farm until 2006.  The couple moved into town in 1982.  Sharon passed away on Nov. 12, 2007.
Bud was a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, American Legion Post 220 & the Sportsmans Club all of Remsen.
            Survivors include; His step-children; Ted Olson & his wife Sandy of Durham, NC, Chuck Olson & his wife Deb of Omaha, NE, Jeff Olson & his wife Sue of rural LeMars, IA, Nancy Pratt & her husband Bruce of Fremont, NE, William Ahrens of Alcoa, TN, Craig Ahrens of Joplin, MO, Victor Ahrens & his wife Sheila of Remsen.  Bud also has 22)Grandchildren; 12)Great-grandchildren; 1)Great-great-grandchild & Numerous Nieces & Nephews.
Preceded by: His parents; 3)Sisters, Minnie Harvey, Ema Behrens & Hulda Kahl; 3)Brothers, Henry, Bill & Ed Kahl.
