Herbert J. Portz

Herbert J. Portz, 86 years old, of Hospers, IA, died on Sunday, Aug. 24, 2014, at Orange City Health System Hospital in Orange City, IA.

            Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Aug. 29, 2014, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Hospers with Rev. Terry Roder officiating.  Burial will be in the St. Anthony Cemetery in Hospers.  Visitation will be any time after 4 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 28, 2014.  There will be a parish rosary at 5 p.m. & a vigil prayer service at 7 p.m., all at the St. Anthony Catholic Church in Hospers.  Services have been entrusted to Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen.

            Herbert was born May 16, 1928, at Hospers, IA, the son of Nick & Mary (Pottebaum) Portz.  He was raised in the Hospers area and attended St. Anthony School.  He then helped his dad farm until four years prior to his death.  He loved to golf and hunt with the boys.

            Herbert was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus.

           Survivors include: his five sisters, Elvira (Ray) Youngers of Sun City, AZ, Flora (Nic) Hansen of Alton, IA, Charlotte Von Arb of Spring, TX, Cordella (George) Hansen of Windom, MN, Lorna Mae Portz of Hospers, IA; one sister-in-law, Catherine Portz of Hospers; numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceded by: his parents, one brother, Bernard, one brother-in-law, Everett Von Arb, nephews Stanley Portz and Daryl Von Arb.

           Casket bearers will be Chris Schmit, Ken Schmit, Dennis Hansen, Gary Hansen, Dale Von Arb, Matt Portz.
