Jane (Lanzendorf) Homan of Alton, IA , age 85, died Monday, January 23, 2012 at Touchmark at All Saints, Sioux Falls, SD, following a long battle with Alzheimer's.
        Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 26, 2012, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Alton with burial at St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation will be after 4 p.m. Wednesday afternoon with a rosary at 5:00 pm and a vigil prayer service at 5:30p.m., all at St. Mary Catholic Church in Alton. Services have been entrusted to Fisch Funeral Home & Monument of Remsen.
        Jane Elizabeth Lanzendorf was born October 1, 1926 in Oyens, Iowa, the daughter of George and Elizabeth (Gengler) Lanzendorf. She attended school in Oyens and Le Mars, graduating from LeMars High School in 1943. After graduation, she worked as a legal secretary.
        On September 9, 1947, she married Francis “Dutch” Homan at Oyens, Iowa. They made their home in Alton and purchased Homan's Grocery Store in 1956, which they operated until retiring in 1985. Jane and Dutch loved to golf, bowl, dance and travel. In July, 2007, they moved to Sioux Falls.
        Survivors include two daughters, Bev, and her husband Dick Casey, of Sioux Falls, SD and Mary Nurre of West Des Moines, IA, two sons and their wives, Paul and Glenda of LeMars, IA and Rick and Deb of Omaha, NE, one, daughter-in-law, Ann Homan of Ida Grove, IA, 15 grandchildren, and three great-grandsons, and two brothers, Don and Richard Lanzendorf and his wife, Mary.
        She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Dutch, two sons, John, when a young child & Jim, a granddaughter, Megan, when a young child, two sisters, Helen Kirchof, and Betty Zell, and three brothers, John, Robert and Bill Lanzendorf.
        Casket Bearers will be, Ryan Casey, Austin, Kelsey, Nick, Andy & Nathan Homan & Abbie Nurre.
        Family requests no flowers. In lieu of flowers send donations to St. Mary Church, Alton, Iowa, The Alzheimer's Association or a charity of your choice.
