Janet Penning, 67 of Remsen, IA died Thursday, April 11, 2013 surrounded by her family at Plymouth Manor in LeMars, IA.
Funeral Service will be Monday, April 15, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. from St. John’s Lutheran Church ELCA in LeMars, with Rev. Greg Gabrial officiating. Burial will be in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery at Craig, IA. Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, April 14, 2013. There will be a prayer service at 5 p.m. all at Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen. Visitation will resume from 9 a.m. until service time at the church on Monday. Services have been entrusted to the Fisch Funeral Home & Monument of Remsen.
Janet was born Nov. 23, 1945 at LeMars, IA, the daughter of Louis & Tena (Kruse) Halweg. She was raised and educated in the LeMars area graduating from LeMars Community High School in 1964. She then attended Western Iowa Tech and graduated in 1968 with a degree in nursing.
On Aug. 24, 1968 she married Daniel Penning at St. Joseph’s Church in Granville. The couple made their home on a farm near Granville. They lived there until 1992 when they moved to a farm near Remsen and later moved into Remsen. After raising her children she worked as a home health aid and a CNA.
Janet was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church ELCA. She enjoyed gardening.
Survivors include: her husband, Daniel of Remsen; her seven children, Melany (John) Roling of Remsen, Tena Leners and her fiancé Dave Peters of Sioux City, IA, Dawn (Jim) Boeshart of Sioux City, IA, Talon (Anita) Penning of Remsen, Casey (Amy) Penning of Remsen, Kevin Penning and his fiancé Jenny Jones of LeMars, IA, Kara (Jeff) Koehn of Kingsley, IA; thirteen grandchildren, Robert & Brad Roling, Brooke, Brittany, Trent and Breanna Leners, Kiley and Mikayla Boeshart, Audra and Andrea Penning, Bailey, Colbey and Brodey Penning, Taylor DeBoer, Hunter Koehn; one great-grandchild, Tayleigh Leners; one sister, Darlene (Ivan) Jeppson of Bancroft, NE; one brother-in-law, Wallace (Beverly) Sorensen of Lawton, IA; several nieces and nephews.
Preceded by, her parents; one grandson Derek Penning, one brother, Leonard (Betty) Halweg, one sister, Dorothy Sorensen, her mother and father-in-law, Edward and Anna Penning.
Casket Bearers will be, Robert and Brad Roling, Alan Jeppson, Mark and Bruce Sorensen, Ron Halweg.
Honorary Bearers will be her grandchildren.
