Joan Evelyn Schroeder

Joan Evelyn Schroeder, 90 years old, of Remsen, IA, passed away peacefully on March 19, 2013 surrounded by her loving family at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, IA.
        Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Mar. 22, 2013, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen with Rev. William McCarthy and Deacon Rick Roder officiating.  Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Remsen.  Visitation will be anytime after 4 p.m. on Thursday, Mar. 21, 2013.  There will be a parish rosary at 5 p.m. and a vigil prayer service at 7 p.m. all at the Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen, IA.
        Joan was born Oct. 12, 1922, at Remsen, IA, the daughter of John and Rose (Bohnenkamp) Ludwig.  Joan was raised in Remsen and educated at St. Mary’s Catholic School graduating in 1940. She then attended Western Union College (Westmar) and taught in rural schools in the area. She later worked at Hatz grocery for a few years until she started working as a secretary for the town of Remsen.
        On Nov. 19, 1945 she married Harold Jaminet in Remsen. Harold passed away in 1963. In 1981 Joan married Elmer Schroeder. Elmer passed away in 1994.
        Joan was always active in the church and participated in Catholic Daughters of America and the St. Mary’s Guild for over 50 years.  She was also known in the community for her custom rosary making.  Joan enjoyed attending daily mass at St. Mary’s, bowling, quilting, bus trips, and spending time with family and friends.  She also spent numerous hours volunteering at Happy Siesta Health Care Center and Bavarian Meadows in Remsen.
        Survivors include; her son Jim (Lisa) Jaminet of Saguache CO and their children, Jesse (Dena) Jaminet and their daughter Jaelie of Alamosa, CO, Jeremy (Justina) of Anchorage AK, Step Children, James (Shyril) Schroeder of Hinton, and their children Kristi, Scott, Kurt, Sherrie, Kraig; John Schroeder of Remsen, and his children, Tammy, Deb, Cindy, Todd, Jaci, Tim; Mary (Richard) Riedemann of Remsen, and their children, Susan, Kevin, Cathy; Philip (Margie) Schroeder of Remsen; and their children, Brad, Angie, Stacey, Kristin, Justin; step-daughter in law, Sharon (Cletus) Sitzmann of LeMars, and Sharon’s children, Shelly, Brenda, Paul, Preston, Jesse, Nathan, Natalie; 
        Preceded by: her parents, one son, Thomas Jaminet as a young child, and a step-son Paul Schroeder. Joan was the youngest of 11 siblings, she was preceded in death by Eleanor (Ludwig) and John Nilles, Evelyn (Ludwig) and Albert Galles, Rosena (Ludwig) and Donald Hughes, Callista (Ludwig) and Hank Doherty, Lucille (Ludwig) and Charles Price, Mildred (Ludwig) and Laurence Roling, Frank and Harriet (Schnepf) Ludwig, Lola (Ludwig) and Bob Holbrook, Cleo (Ludwig) and John Loutsch, Rosemary (Ludwig) and Lou Kenney. Step-daughter-in-law, Minnie Schroeder.
        Casket Bearers will be: Jesse Jaminet, Jeremy Jaminet, Justin Schroeder, Kevin Riedemann, Todd Schroeder, Jesse Schroeder and Scott Schroeder.
