John Schneider

November 3, 1935 — March 26, 2012

John “Jack” Schneider, 76 of Alton, IA died Monday, March 26, 2012 at his home in Alton, IA.
       Funeral Service will be Friday, March 30, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. from St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton, IA with Rev. Paul Eisele officiating.  Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Alton, IA.  Military Honors will be conducted by Floyd Post 200 American Legion of Alton. Visitation will be anytime after 4 p.m. Thursday, March 29, 2011.  There will be a parish rosary at 5p.m. and a vigil prayer service at 7 p.m., all at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton.  Services have been entrusted to the Fisch Funeral Home & Monument of Remsen.  Condolences may be sent online to www.fischfh.com. 
       Jack was born, Nov. 3, 1935, the son of Victor & Clara (Hansen) Schneider. Jack was raised in Alton and graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in 1953.  He then enlisted in the United States Army.  Jack attended basic training in Fort Bliss, TX.  After basic, he spent 18 months serving with an Artillery Unit in Germany, were he achieved the rank of SP3.  Jack served from Sept. 15, 1954 until Sept. 1, 1956.
       He married Janette Reese on Sept. 23, 1961, and lived in Sheldon prior to moving to Alton, where they raised their family.  He drove truck for Foreman Trucking for 4 years.  He then drove for AGP for 34 years and retired in 1995.  After retirement, he continued to drive truck for Aalbers, Ahlers and Plendl Brothers.  Jack loved Trucking!  His description to us was “I felt the same excitement and joy as one experiences when learning to ride your bike for the first time, each and every time I climbed into a truck”.
       Jack was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Floyd Post 200 American Legion & Catholic Order of Foresters.  Jack enjoyed spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchild.  He also enjoyed riding his motorcycle, hunting, fishing, traveling and playing cards.
       Survivors include: his wife, Janette R. Schneider of Alton; son, Gaylen Schneider & his wife Julie of Alton; daughter, Dawn Mercier & her husband Dave of Gardner, KS, daughter, Renae Hinrichsen & her husband Patrick of Sioux City, IA; son, Layne Schneider & his wife Monica of Omaha, NE; 11 grandchildren, Ashley List & her husband Michael of Sioux City, IA, Heather Whitmore & her husband Matt of Omaha, NE, Nathen Schneider & his special friend Maggie of Alton, IA, Nic Schneider of Alton, Steven, Taylor & Alec Mercier of Gardner, KS, Mitchell & his wife Paige of Ames, IA, Shelby Hinrichsen & special friend Mitch of Ames, IA, Airman First Class Bryce Hinrichsen, Mountain Home AFB, ID, Vivian Schneider of Omaha, NE; One great grandchild, Rupert John Hinrichsen of Ames, IA.  Four sisters, Betty Burgess of Oak Ridge, TN, Pat Nilles & her husband Francis of Remsen, IA, Mariwyn McComb of Lafayette, CA, Sandy Erickson & her husband Bob of Eustis, FL.
       Preceded by: his parents, one brother-in-law, Bill Burgess.
       Casket Bearers will be Jack’s grandsons: Nathen & Nic Schneider, Steven & Alec Mercier, Mitchell & Bryce Hinrichsen.
       Honorary Bearers, Ashley List, Heather Whitmore, Taylor Mercier, Shelby Hindrichsen, Vivian Schneider.
