Kathleen “Kitty” M. Pick, 81 years old, of Remsen, IA, died Thursday, May 10, 2012 surrounded by her 9 children after a short battle with cancer, at Happy Siesta Health Care Center in Remsen, IA.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m., Monday, May 14, 2012, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen with Rev. William McCarthy & Deacon Rick Roder officiating. Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Remsen. Visitation will be anytime after 4 p.m. on Sunday, May 13, 2012. There will be a parish rosary at 5 p.m. and a vigil prayer service at 7 p.m. all at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Services have been entrusted to Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen.
Kitty was born May 31, 1930, at rural Remsen, IA, the daughter of John & Susan (Treinen) Schiltz. Kitty was raised and educated in the Remsen area. She graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1948. After school she did domestic work.
On June 10, 1952 she married Glenn Pick. The couple farmed near Granville for a few years until moving to Remsen. She worked many years at the Golden Pheasant and also helped at Ruth’s Café. In 1984 Glenn and Kitty purchased Picks Corner. Glenn passed away Oct. 25, 1984. Kitty continued running the business until 1996. She moved into the Happy Siesta in 2006 where she made many friends.
Kitty was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, church guild & VFW Auxiliary.
Survivors include; her nine children, Judy (Steve) Bunkers of Remsen, Cindy Harbeck of Scottsdale, AZ, Steve (Christy) Pick of Remsen, Sue (Ron) Theisen of Remsen, Scott Pick of Kansas City, KS, Lori (Steve) Sempeck of Omaha, NE, Terri (Chuck) Conover of Remsen, Roxanne (Terry) Taiber of Des Moines, IA, Todd (Julee Kovarna) Pick of Remsen; 24 grandchildren; 14 Great-grandchildren; one sister, Rosemary Forkenbrock of Junction City, KS; 3 sisters-in-law, Margie Schiltz, Dorie (Don) Kolker all of Remsen, Jan Pick of Sioux City, IA; 4 brothers-in-law, Daniel (Carol Jean) Pick of Remsen, Cliff (Nancy) Pick of LeMars, IA, Gus Gano of Cherokee, IA, Larry Kurth of Scottsdale, AZ.
Preceded by: her husband Glenn, her parents, father-in-law & mother-in-law, Alphonse & Erma Pick, one son-in-law, Tim Smid Sr., 5 sisters, Loretta (Menard) George, Norma (Clyde) Means, Tillie (Norman) Treinen, Clarinda (Ken) Holt, Callista (Pete) Konz; 2 brothers, Cletus Schiltz & Vernon (Darlene) Schiltz; 3 sisters-in-law, Vera Gano, Ruth (Dick) Rhodes & Hazel Means; 5 brothers-in-law, Joe & Jerry (Jolene) Pick, Pete Feller, Harold Berding & Ambrose Forkenbrock.
Casket Bearers will be her grandsons: Jeremy Bunkers, Phillip Pick, Tim Smid, Matt Sempeck, Elliott Conover & Beau Pick.
