Kenneth Gustave Alesch

July 2, 1936 — February 12, 2018

Kenneth Alesch, 81 years old, of Remsen, IA, died Monday, Feb. 12, 2018, at his home in Remsen.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Feb. 16, 2018 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen with Rev. William McCarthy officiating and Deacon Rick Roder assisting. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Remsen. Graveside military honors will be conducted by American Legion Post 220 and V.FW. Post 3328 of Remsen. Visitation with family present will be from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 15, 2018. There will be a parish rosary at 5 p.m. and vigil prayer service at 7 p.m. all at Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen.

Mr. Alesch was born July 2, 1936 in Oyens, Iowa the son of Ray and Mathilda "Tillie" (Schilmoeller) Alesch.  

He married Marietta (Groff) Arens on August 24, 1990.  The couple lived in rural Remsen until 1999 when they moved into town.


Kenneth served on various organizations: Marcus Oil Co. Co-op Board of Directors 1979 – 1987, Plymouth Co. Conservation Board of Directors 1987 – 1990, Plymouth Co. Cattlemen's Board of Directors 1980 – 1992, appointed to Plymouth Co. Variance Board Dec. 2000, appointed to Plymouth Co. Board of Review Jan. 2001, worked part-time for the City of Remsen Ballpark 2002 – 2009, and he proudly donated 23 gallons of blood. 

Kenneth was called to active Army duty on Dec. 3, 1955.  He served 2 years of active duty with Company B 13th Transportation Battalion, 2nd Infantry Division.  He was assigned to Ft. Richardson, Alaska where he attained the rank of PFC and received the Good Conduct Medal.  After his 2 years of service and serving his remaining obligation he was honorably discharged.  

Kenneth was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen, Catholic Order of Foresters and Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed riding his Harley, hanging out with coffee buddies at Ruth's Cafe and later at Mrs. B's, wintering in Arizona with Marietta.

Survivors include: his wife Marietta of Remsen; children, Roman Arens of Remsen, IA, Keith (Denise) Arens of LeMars, IA and Lisa (Harlan) Oban of Dakota Dunes, SD; his brothers and sisters, Marlene (Paul) Pick of Remsen, IA, Jacquie (Jim) O'Connor of Valley, NE, Paul (Jane) Alesch of Lake View, IA, Kay (Bob) Johnson of Omaha, NE, Claudia (Steve) Larsen of Omaha, NE; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Clarice (Daniel) Groff of Remsen, IA, Fae (Jim) Moritz of Remsen, IA and Chris Wearth of Tempe, AZ; 10 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.  

He was preceded in death by, parents, Ray and Mathilda "Tillie" Alesch, a sister, Betty (Denny) Moser, father and mother-in-law, Roman and Marian  Groff, brother-in-law, Larry Wearth.

Casket bearers will be his nephews: Jerry Moser, Pat Pick, Casey Larsen, Jeff Pick, Jon Pick, Mike O'Connor and Joshua Alesch.
