Lanise Rae Nissen, age 49, of Remsen passed away Monday, Dec. 30, 2019 at Sanford Community Memorial Health Center in Hartley, IA.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, 2020 at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Remsen, with Pastor Chris Nitzel officiating. Visitation with family present will be 5-7 p.m. Friday at Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen. Visitation will resume 9:30 a.m. on Saturday at the church.
Lanise was born March 31, 1970 to Dennis Bruns & Connie George in Hartley, IA. She was raised and educated in Paullina, IA and Huron, SD, graduating from Huron Senior High School in 1988. She started her adult life in Primghar, IA where she raised her 2 boys, R.J. and Trevor Donovan.
She was united in marriage to Richard “Rick” Nissen on June 25, 2016 at Remsen. For the last 6 years, she bravely battled leiomyosarcoma cancer. In July 2019, she decided the chemotherapy side effects were too much and she wanted to enjoy what life she had left on her own terms. Lanise always had a positive attitude, amazing sense of humor and was always willing to give you a hard time!
She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hartley. She enjoyed camping, especially Dog Creek in Sutherland, IA, being outside, sitting by the campfire and also cheering on the 49’ers during football season. Her grandkids brought her great joy and she enjoyed every minute she was able to spend with them!
Survivors include her husband Rick of Remsen; children, Ralph (Serena) Donovan Jr. of McCook, NE, Trevor (Lydia) Donovan of Remsen; step-children, Mike (Suzy) Nissen of Hanlontown, IA, Ryan (Candice) Nissen of Sanford, NC, Ralyn (Aaron) VanVoorst of Lemon Springs, NC, Rachel (Sebastian) Ventura of Sanford, NC; grandchildren, Karsin, Logan, Elly, Zander and Silas Donovan, Iliana, Reyna and Naomi Nissen, Keaton and Hendrix VanVoorst, Faith, Daniel, and Natalie Ventura; her mother, Connie (James) George of Hartley, IA; her father, Dennis Bruns of Alton, IA; siblings, Brad (Vickie) Bruns of Huron, SD, April (Dan) Krull of Spirit Lake, IA, Crystal (Mike) VanRavenswaay of Sanborn, IA and Beth (Randy) Meyer of Quimby, IA; Many Aunts, Uncles, nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by her step mother, Janet Bruns, paternal and maternal grandparents, her sister Ellie Bruns and her brother, Rick Bruns.
Casketbearers will be, Frank Nacke, Andy Fiedler, RJ Donovan, Paul Staab, Mark Sudtelgte and Brad Hodgen.
