Lawrence Roling, 98 years old, of Remsen, IA died Friday, May 28, 2010, at Happy Siesta Health Care Center in Remsen.  
    Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, June 1, 2010, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen with Rev. William McCarthy, Msgr. Nicholas Ruba & Deacon Rick Roder officiating.  Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Remsen.  Visitation will be anytime after 2 p.m. on Monday, May 31, 2010.  There will be a parish rosary at 3 p.m., a vigil prayer service at 7:30 p.m. followed by a Knights of Columbus & Catholic Order of Foresters rosary all at Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen.  Services have been entrusted to Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen.
    Lawrence was born on Feb. 15, 1912, at rural Remsen, IA the son of Fred & Mary (Reisberg) Roling.  He was raised in the Remsen area and attended St. Mary’s Catholic School in Remsen.
    On Aug. 23, 1938 he married Mildred Ludwig.  The couple farmed near Remsen for 35 years.  In 1973 they retired & moved into Remsen.  Lawrence & Mildred through the years enjoyed traveling, dancing & playing cards with friends & family.  Lawrence also enjoyed fishing & playing his accordion.  Mildred died Dec. 27, 2004.  Lawrence had been a resident of the Happy Siesta Health Care Center in Remsen since Feb. 2, 2007.
    One of the greatest loves, if not the greatest love in his life, was his church and his God.  Religion was of the utmost importance to him.  He believed that God provided him with the happy life he lived and that God is why he has such a wonderful family.
    Lawrence was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Catholic Order of Foresters, and Luxembourg Brotherhood & was the president for many years.
    Survivors include: One son, Fred Roling & his wife Mary Kay of Remsen; Five daughters, Sally Kneip & her husband Kenneth, Ruth Kneip & her husband Bob all of LeMars, IA, Diane Ames & her husband Robert “Butch”, Rose Mary Braun & her husband Rich all of Omaha, NE, Connie Pronga & her husband Harold of Waukon, IA; 21) grandchildren; 28) Great-grandchildren; One sister-in-law, Joan Schroeder of Remsen.
     Preceded in death by, his parents, one granddaughter Linda Kneip, three brothers, Frank & his wife Catherine Roling, Gilbert & his wife Marie Roling, a brother in infancy; Seven sisters, Theresa & her husband Frank Nacke, Regina & her husband Tony Pick, Henrietta & her husband Al Tentinger, Eleanor & her husband Albert “Dutch” Siefke,  Sally & her husband Paul Rodesch, Martha & her husband Ernest Groepper & Mary Roling as a young child.
     Casket Bearers will be, Dan Roling, Tim Ames, Michael Durbin, Ron Kneip, David Irwin & Nicholas Pronga.  
     Honorary Bearers will be his grandchildren & great-grandchildren.
     Honorary Bearers will be members of the Knights of Columbus
     Honorary Bearers will be members of The Catholic Order of Foresters.
