Leonard Bindner

Leonard Bindner, 94 years old, of Marcus, IA died Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2010 at Heartland Care Center in Marcus. 
        Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 30, 2010 at Holy Name Catholic Church in Marcus with Rev. Armand Bertrand and Rev. Eugene Murray officiating.  Burial will be in the Holy Name Cemetery in Marcus.  Visitation will be anytime after 2 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 29, 2010.  There will be a rosary at 3 p.m. by the Knights of Columbus and a vigil prayer service at 7:30 p.m. followed with a Chalice presentation by the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Garrigan Assembly all at Holy Name Catholic Church in Marcus.  Services have been entrusted to Fisch Funeral Home & Monument of Remsen.
        Leonard was born on Oct. 23, 1916 in American Township rural LeMars, IA, the son of John and Caecilia (Kusse) Bindner.  He attended St. Joseph’s Grade School in LeMars before moving to Marcus where he graduated in 1935 from Holy Name High School. 
        On May 19, 1942 he married Mildred Pletschette at LeMars, IA.  They farmed near Remsen until 1949, when they moved to a farm near Marcus where he was a livestock producer and grain farmer.  They moved into Marcus in 1976.  Mildred died Feb. 18, 2002.
        Leonard was a member of the Holy Name Catholic Church and 4th Degree Knights of Columbus.
        Survivors include: three daughters, Janet Broer (Erich) of Lincoln, NE, Gennie Howe of McKinney, TX, Annie Samuelsen (Neil) of Richardson, TX; three sons, Jerry (Karen) of Fargo, ND, Pete (Julie) of Marcus, IA, Fred (Dinah) of Mt Pleasant, IA; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two brothers, John H. Bindner (Elvira) of Marcus, IA, Charles Bindner (Darlene) of Garden Grove, CA; one sister Gloria Welte (Maurie) of Sergeant Bluff, IA; one sister-in-law, Marge Bindner of LeMars, IA; one brother-in-law, Hubert Nothem of Remsen, IA; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
        He was preceded in death by: his parents, three brothers, George, Donald, & Vernon (Edna), two sisters Leona Henson and Bertha Nothem.
        Casket Bearers will be: John Schuster, Joseph Schuster, Ted Nothem, Jack Bindner, Donnie Welte and Max Treinen.
