Lorraine Miller, 89, of Remsen passed away Friday, Nov. 15, 2019 at Heartland Care Center in Marcus, IA.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2019 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen, IA with Father William McCarthy officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Cemetery in Remsen, IA. Visitation with family present will be 4-7 p.m. Monday. There will be a rosary and a vigil prayer service at 5 p.m. at Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen. Visitation will resume 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
Lorraine was born December 29, 1929, to Herman, Sr and Regina (Schroeder) Freking of Le Mars, IA. She grew up on the family farm southeast of Le Mars, IA and graduated from St. Joseph Catholic High School in May 1949. Upon graduating, Lorraine worked in the marking department at J.C.Penney and also at Green Gables in Sioux City. She enjoyed helping family and friends.
On October 9, 1951, Lorraine married Glenn Miller and they lived on the Miller family farm, southeast of Remsen. In 1996, they moved into Remsen after Glenn retired. Glenn passed away September 2, 2001.
Lorraine was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Remsen. She was also a member of the Christian Mothers, the Catholic Daughters and the Mission Society.
Lorraine was honored with the Citizen of the Year award from the Remsen Chamber of Commerce on January 26, 2006. For 20 years she was in charge of the Octoberfest Craft Show. Lorraine was known as “Barbie Doll Lady” as making doll clothes was her favorite hobby. She was a seamstress for fifty years.
She will lovingly be remembered by her children: Richard (Sue) Miller, daugher-in-law, Donna Miller, all of Remsen and daughter, Jean (Patrick) Zenk of Alton, IA. Grandchildren: Jaclyn (Jeff) Arens and their children Addison, Elizabeth, Grant and Jade; Reggie Miller, Tim Miller, Anne (Erik) Wold, Christopher (Michaelle) Miller and their children Sophia and Scarlet; Andrew (Diana) Miller and their children Daniella and Lucia; Jason, Tyler and Adrienne Zenk; Her siblings: Harold (Kay) Freking, Betty Freking, Lloyd Freking all of Le Mars, IA and Karen (Richard) McPherson of Iowa City, IA.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her mother and father-in-law, Anton and Anna Miller; sons Larry and Joseph (infancy); siblings, Ethel and Albert Mayer and Herman Freking, Jr.; 2 sisters-in-law, Lewine (Urban) Loesche and Fern (Ervin) Staab.
Casket Bearers will be Reggie, Christopher and Tim Miller, Erik Wold, Jason and Tyler Zenk.
