Marie B. Schnepf

April 3, 1919 — March 7, 2013

Marie B. Schnepf, 93, of Remsen, died Thursday, March 7, 2013, at her home near Oyens, IA. 
        Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Monday, March 11, 2013 at St. Catherine Catholic  Church in Oyens with Rev. William McCarthy officiating.  Burial will be in St. Catherine Cemetery.   Visitation will be anytime after 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 10, 2013.  There will be a parish rosary at 5 p.m. and a vigil prayer service at 7 p.m. all at Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen.
        Marie was born April 3, 1919 to Felix and Rose (Hodapp) Langenhorst at rural Granville, IA.  She grew up on the family farm near Granville.  She earned the highest score on county tests after completing 8th grade.  She worked for a short while in Sioux City after school.
        On Oct. 6, 1941 she married Robert Schnepf, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Granville.  The couple farmed near Remsen before moving to the Schnepf farm near Oyens in 1959. They retired on the farm in 1980.  Robert died Feb. 22, 2000.
        Marie was a member of St. Catherine Church & church guild.  She was an avid quilter and needleworker.  She started the Meadowlarks 4-H Club.  She was the first lay person to become a Eucharistic Minister in St. Catherine Church.  She exhibited many times at the Plymouth County Fair receiving numerous purple ribbons for her needlework, flowers & vegetables.
        Survivors include, her son Wayne of Oyens;  three daughters, Rosanne Schwery of West Des Moines, Marilynn Schnepf of Lincoln, NE, Joyce (James) Visor of Racine, WI; four granddaughters, Beth Schwery of Kansas City, MO, Jill (Matt) Dolan of Des Moines, IA, Katie Visor of Milwaukee, WI, Annie Visor of Madison, WI; three great-grandchildren, Kayla, Andrew & Alexis Dolan; one sister, Irene Hauser of Sleepy Eye, MN.
        Marie was preceded in death by her parents, son, Robert Schnepf, daughter, Karen Schnepf, brother, Anthony Langenhorst, sister, Marion (John) Wernke, son-in-law, Donald Schwery.
        Casket bearers will be, Larry Galles, Donald Konz, Wayne & Dan Pick, Jerry & Lou Arens.
