Mary Ann Goebel

Mary Ann Goebel, age 78 of Granville, Iowa, passed away unexpectedly Monday, Nov. 23, 2020 at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD. 

Mass of Christian Burial will be 3:30 p.m., Friday, Nov. 27, 2020 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Granville, IA, with Father Daniel Greving officiating and Deacon Dan Goebel assisting. Burial will be at a later date.  Visitation with family present will be 1 hour before the service at the church on Friday, masks are required and social distancing guidelines will be followed.  Services have been entrusted to Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen, IA.

Mary Ann was born November 1, 1942 in Hastings, NE, daughter of Roman & Madeleine (Alexander) Bunkers. She lived in Madison, WI and Atlanta, GA while her father was in the service.  She attended Remsen St. Mary Grade School and graduated from St. Mary High School in 1960.  Her work included: T.C. Henderson Investment Co. in Sioux City, K-Products in Orange City from 1972-1989, and Spalding Catholic School from 1989-2013. She was affectionately referred to as “Grandma Go Go” by the kids during her time as secretary at Spalding.  She was joined in Holy Marriage to John Gerald Goebel on August 10, 1961 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Remsen. 

Mary Ann was a member of St. Joseph parish in Granville, taught Religious Ed from 1990-2012 and was a member and past president of St. Joseph Guild and the Northwest Deanery Council of Catholic Women.  She enjoyed raising their eight children, volunteering at the Spalding Catholic Development Office, being with her grandchildren, mowing the lawn, helping on the farm, playing cards, sewing, gardening, cooking and baking, and watching Twins baseball.  Mary Ann stayed busy baking items to share with family, friends, and strangers.  No one left her home without getting some food.  The suffering she endured, especially at the end of her life, was never wasted.  She offered it up for the benefit of others. Mary Ann had a heart of gold and was loved by so many.    

Survivors include her husband, Gerald of Granville; 3 daughters and families - Geri (Jack) Salzman of Orange City; Sherry (Todd) Schueder of Paullina; Christy (Jim) Harald of Alton, Tyler, Brandon & Jacob (special friend Alejandra); 5 sons & families - Garry (Lynda) Goebel of Granville, Jade (Max Wolgen) & Marsadie; Jack Goebel of Granville; Bill Goebel of Alton, Bailey (fiancé Coby); Jim & Megan Goebel of Sioux Falls, Stella, Avery & Gabriel; Deacon Dan & Jacki Goebel of Orange City, Trinity, Cadence & Aurora; sisters-in-law Marcy Bunkers, Arlene McDermott, Mary Murphy, Rosanne Goebel; brother-in-law Ray Loutsch and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. 

Preceded in death by parents Roman & Madeline Bunkers; father & mother-in-law, John & Martha Goebel; brother Bob Bunkers, sister and husband Jan & Ron Ernst, sisters-in-law Vivian & Pete Homan & Joan Loutsch, brothers-in-law Magnus & Leona Goebel, Odilo & Angeline Goebel, Ivan Goebel, Firmin Goebel, Linus & Mildred Goebel, Tom Murphy & Larry McDermott and several aunts and uncles. 

Casket bearers will be Brandon Harald, Bailey Goebel, Jacob Harald, Gabriel Goebel, Jack Salzman, Todd Schueder, Jim Harald, Max Wolgen. 

Honorary casket bearer will be Tyler Harald.  

Memorials may be directed to Spalding Catholic School.
