Mary Magdalen Wersinger

Mary Wersinger, 87 years old, of Remsen, IA, died Saturday, Nov. 26, 2011, at Floyd Valley Hospital in LeMars, IA.
      Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2011, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen with Rev. William McCarthy officiating.  Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Remsen.  Visitation will be anytime after 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2011.  There will be a parish rosary at 3 p.m. and a vigil prayer service at 7:30 p.m. all at the Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen, IA.
      Mary was born May 1, 1924, at LeMars, IA, the daughter of Joseph & Minnie (Unkrur-Santel) Wersinger.  At the age of 10 months she moved with her family to Remsen where she received her education at St. Mary’s Catholic School graduating in 1942.  She worked for forty one years at West Iowa Telephone Company in Remsen retiring in 1989.  In her retirement she kept busy doing volunteer work.
      Mary was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church & church guild, St. Mary’s Mission Association, The Prayer Affiliates of St. Francis, Catholic Daughters of America holding offices of Conductress, financial secretary and recording secretary, The National Catholic Society of Foresters holding the offices of Conductress, recording secretary and president.  The Independent Telephone Pioneers, Happy Siesta Health Auxiliary holding the offices of recording secretary and treasurer.  Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary holding the offices of Conductress, color bearer, flag bearer, guard and president.  She enjoyed traveling, playing cards, flowers, baking, sewing, quilting, crocheting, knitting and crafts.
      Survivors include; one sister, Frances Guttner of Remsen; one brother, Leonard Wersinger & his wife Jackie of Spencer, IA; three sisters-in-law, Margaret Wersinger of Danvers, MN, Irma Wersinger of Mount Pleasant, TX, Carol Wersinger of Denver, CO; four nephews Gary Guttner & his wife Jane of Pueblo, CO, David Wersinger, Paul Wersinger both of Meriden, Keith Wersinger & his wife Sue of Boundrant, IA; two nieces, Lisa Wersinger of Cherokee, IA, Denise Williams & her husband Roy of Newton, IA; three great-nieces, Michelle Guttner of Pueblo, CO, Christine Pritchard & her husband Romania, Kimberly Rino & her husband Joe all of Greely, CO.
      Preceded by: five brothers, Leo in infancy, Arthur, Lawrence, Joseph & his wife Viola & Raphael Wersinger; four sisters, Bernadette Santel in infancy, Helen Jochum & her husband Edmund, Gertrude Bush & her husband Henry, Rose Stallo & her husband Frank; one brother-in-law, Ray Guttner.
      Casket Bearers will be: Charles Stallo, David, Dennis, Keith & Paul Wersinger.
      Honorary Bearers will be: Gary, Michelle Guttner, Christine Pritchard, Kimberly Rino, Lisa Wersinger, Denise Williams.
