Melvin Konz

Melvin Robert Konz, 58 years old, of Remsen, IA, died Sunday, May 22, 2016 at his home surrounded by family after courageous battle with cancer.
Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 25, 2016 from St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen, with Rev. William McCarthy officiating.  Burial will be in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Granville, IA.  There will be a visitation with family present from 4-8 pm Tuesday, there will be a parish rosary at 5 p.m. and vigil prayer service at 7 p.m. all at Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen.
Melvin was born on November 2, 1957 in Le Mars, Iowa, the son of Raymond & Monica (Bode) Konz.  He grew up in Granville and moved to Remsen at the age of 7.  He attended St. Joseph Catholic School in Granville till moving to Remsen where he then attended Remsen St. Mary’s and Remsen-Union.  He graduated from Remsen-Union in 1976.  Melvin was employed with Remsen-Union School District for over 30 years until he retired due to health issues. 
Melvin had been a member of the Remsen Jaycees.  He also played slow pitch, bowled and golfed league.
Melvin loved his Iowa Hawkeyes and Chicago Cubs.  But, his love didn’t stop there.  He had so much love for his family, his RU family and the students he seen each and every day. 
Melvin is survived by his siblings Barbara (Arden) Blake of Le Mars, Iowa; Bev (Calvin) Towne of Sloan, Iowa; Raymond Konz of Le Mars, Iowa; Deb (Steve) Wright of Donna, Texas; Kristy Gorman of Laurens, Iowa.  Nieces and Nephews Jeremy Konz of California, Monica (Chad) Gravenish along with their children MacKenzie, Maci, and Caleb of Remsen, Iowa; LeRoy (Renee) Towne and their son Ian of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa; and Travis (Beth) Towne of Hawarden, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; and brothers Claire and David.
Casket Bearers will be LeRoy Towne, Travis Towne, Chad Gravenish, Tom Bohnenkamp, Casey Penning, and Mark Staab.
Honorary bearers will be MacKenzie Schleis, Maci Gravenish, Caleb Gravenish and his Remsen-Union family.
