Michael B. Kelley, 65 years old, of Katy, TX, formerly of Remsen, IA, died Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2016 after a battle with cancer at Houston Methodist West Hospital in Houston, TX.
Mike was born Oct. 14, 1950, at LeMars, IA, the son of Patrick and LaVonne (Schuchard) Kelley. Raised and educated in Remsen graduating in 1968 from Remsen-Union High School. After high school he began working at Harker’s in LeMars and Orange City, then Wilson Foods in Cherokee. In 1980 he moved to Texas where he worked at Clayton Williams Oil Company until he had an accident at work. He then managed Specs Liquor Store for more than 15 years.
Mike was a Lutheran and was a past member of Christ Lutheran Church in Remsen. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with family and friends. He was also an avid sports fan.
Survivors include: eight siblings, Pat Kelley of Katy, TX, Beverly (Brad) Kuiken of LeMars, IA, Kathy Kelley of Remsen, IA, Tim (Donna) Kelley of Remsen, Deb DeBoer of Remsen, IA, Karen Miller of LeMars, IA, Steve Kelley of LeMars, IA, Jamie Kelley of LeMars, IA; numerous nieces and nephews; two aunts, Loranda Lang of Eugene, OR, Delores Schuchard of Akron, IA; one uncle, Ralph Miller of Bakersfield, CA.
Preceded in death by his parents, two nieces, Lucille Fay Kelley and Karissa Rigsby, one great niece, Kennedy Becker, one great nephew, Max Becker.
