Octavia Mary Weiler

Octavia Mary Weiler, 83 years old, of Remsen, IA, died Saturday, Oct. 30, 2010, at Happy Siesta Health Care Center in Remsen.        Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2010 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen with Rev. William McCarthy officiating.  Burial will be in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Remsen.  Friends may call anytime after 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2010.  There will be a parish rosary at 5 p.m., and vigil prayer service at 7:30 p.m., all at the Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen.        Octavia was born May 15, 1927 at Granville, IA, the daughter of Nick & Catherine (Hoffman) Stoffel.  She was raised and educated in the Remsen area and graduated from St. Mary’s Catholic School in Remsen in 1945.  After graduating she worked at Dean Drug in Sioux City for several years.        On Oct. 16, 1946 she married Marvin Weiler.  They lived on a farm outside of Kingsley for several years before moving to a farm near Remsen in 1960.  They had 14 children which all graduated from St. Mary’s as well.  Marvin passed away Dec. 9, 1987.  Octavia remained on the farm for two years.  In 1989 she moved into Remsen.  In Aug. 2007 she moved to Happy Siesta Health Care Center.            She was a member of Remsen St. Mary’s Catholic Church & church guild, Christian Mothers, Catholic Daughters.  She was a volunteer for Oscar Cash & Happy Siesta.  She enjoyed wood working, golfing, crocheting, fishing, playing pinochle & spending time with family.        Octavia is survived by six daughters & eights sons; Connie Galles & her husband Ron of Remsen, Marvin Jr. & his wife Donna of Ankeny, IA, Cindy Weiler of LeMars, IA, Bob & his wife Gayla of LeMars, IA,  Rick of Struble, IA, Jay & his wife Ellen of Dundee, OR, Denise Hanson of Marcus, IA, Tim & his wife Lorie of Remsen, Janet Hartman & her husband Rob of Blairsville, GA, Chris & his wife Julie of LeMars, IA, Sharon Weiler of Lafayette, OR, Mike of LeMars, IA, Mona Boylan & her husband Scott of LeMars, IA, Jeff & his wife Darla of Remsen; 37 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Elsie Carney & her husband Dick of Colorado Springs, CO, Agnes Kritzer of Sioux City, IA; six sisters-in-law, Olga Stoffel of Woodsville, WI, Irene Linen of Sibley, IA,  Adel Stoffel of Bettendorf, IA, Valeria Schroeder, Therry Weiler both of Remsen, Rosella Mueller of Omaha, NE; one brother-in-law, Carel Connor of Remsen.        She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter Susan at child birth, five brothers, Bill, Florian, Jack, Andy & Nick, one sister, Martha Goergen & her husband Joe, four brothers-in-law, Dominic Schroeder, Gilbert Weiler, Ralph Mueller, Henry Kritzer, two sisters-in-law, Donna Connor, Verna Harvey & her husband Floyd.           Casket Bearers will be Mark Galles, Trent Weiler, Jeremy Weiler, Nathan Weiler, Jason Prieksat Weiler & Brooke Hanson.        Honorary Bearers will be Octavia’s grandchildren.         Octavia will be truly missed by her family.
