Paul Lang,  89 years old, of Remsen, IA, died Thursday, Dec. 24, 2009, at Happy Siesta Health Care Center in Remsen.
    Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2009, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen with Rev. William McCarthy officiating.  Burial will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Remsen.  Graveside military honors will be conducted by V.F.W. Post 3328 & American Legion Post 220 of Remsen.  Friends may call anytime after 2 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 28, 2009.  There will be a parish rosary at 3 p.m., and vigil prayer service at 7 p.m. followed by a Knight of Columbus Rosary, all at Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen.  Services have been entrusted to Fisch Funeral Home & Monument of Remsen.
    Paul was born Dec. 20, 1920 at rural Remsen, the son of Frank & Elizabeth (Cosgrove) Lang.  Paul was raised and educated in the Remsen area.  He received his primary 8 years of education in the rural school system, attended first 3 years of high school at St. Mary’s High School in Remsen, his senior year at LeMars Central High School graduating in 1938.  He was then engaged in farming with his father.  On Nov. 19, 1942 he entered the Army Air Corps and served during WWII in the Pacific Theater as a pilot and also radio operator, being discharged Jan. 24, 1946.  He then returned to the Remsen area where he was engaged in farming.
    On Oct. 15, 1947 he married Shirley Daniels at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Sioux City.  They made their home near Remsen where they farmed until retiring and moving into Remsen in March of 1981.  Paul entered the Happy Siesta Health Care Center on Jan. 22, 2009.
    Paul was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Knight of Columbus, Senior Citizens of Remsen, R.C. Skyhawks of Marcus & Remsen, past St. Mary’s High School board member for 2 years, past township committeeman for A.S.C.S. of Plymouth County for 2 years, past member of the Remsen Public Library board for 12 years serving as president for 4 of those years, past St. Mary’s Church Choir member, past Oktoberfest choir member.  He enjoyed bowling, golfing, music and building & flying radio controlled airplanes.
    Survivors include: His wife Shirley of Remsen; 1)Daughter, Diane & her husband James Ruden of Marcus, IA; 4)Sons, Dennis Lang & his wife Deborah of Panora, IA, Douglas Lang & his wife Jolene of Benson, MN, David Lang & his former wife Kathleen of LeMars, IA, Dwight Lang & his wife Ruth of Sergeant Bluff, IA; 13 Grandchildren; Laurie Ruden, Christine (Ruden) Massey, Wade Ruden, Andrew Lang, Katie Woodard, Pastor Barry Lang, Lisa (Lang) Miller, Jonathon J.D. Lang, Marcus Lang, Chad Lang, Heather Lang, Alex Lang & Justin Lang. Miller13)Great-grandchildren; Joshua, Jacob & Julianne Massey, Allison, Sophie & Tessa Ruden, Ellie & Amelia Lang, Rylee Woodard, Lillian & Lucas Miller;  1)Sister, Mary Lux of Cherokee, IA;  2) Brothers-in-law, James Smith of Marcus, IA, George Hankins of Santa Ana, CA.

    Casket Bearers will be, Wade Ruden, Andrew Lang, Pastor Barry Lang, J.D. Lang, Marcus Lang, Chad Lang
    Honorary Bearers will be members of the Knights of Columbus.
