Raymond J. Krier

Raymond J. Krier, 93 years old, of Remsen, IA died Thursday, April 15, 2010, at Happy Siesta Health Care Center in Remsen. 
            Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Monday, April 19, 2010, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen with Rev. William McCarthy officiating and Msgr. Roger Augustine & Msgr. Nicholas Ruba concelebrating.  Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Remsen.  Visitation will be anytime after 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 18, 2010.  There will be a parish rosary at 5 p.m. and a vigil prayer service at 7 p.m. followed by a Kniights of Columbus rosary all at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen.  Visitation will resume from 9 a.m. until service time on Monday at the church.  Services have been entrusted to Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen.
            Ray was born on April 27, 1916, at Remsen, IA the son of Aloysius & Magdalen (Scharff) Krier.  He was raised in the Remsen area and attended St. Mary’s Catholic School in Remsen.
     On Sept. 25, 1945, he married Viola Konz. They made their home on the family farm south of Remsen where they farmed until 1979 when they retired and moved into Remsen. Ray loved bowling, golfing, hunting and made annual trips to Canada to fish. He dearly loved his family and happily welcomed anyone into his home. It was always his greatest delight to have his grandchildren and great-grandchildren come to visit.
     Ray was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Sportsman Club and a volunteer driver for meals on wheels.  He was a past member of the Catholic Order of Foresters.
     Survivors include: his wife Viola of 64 years, seven children, Jim Krier & his wife Karen, Jerry Krier & his wife Sandy, Jan Scheitler & her husband Stan, Connie Plathe & her husband Bob, Bev Bacan & her husband Tom, Ron Krier & his wife Rose all of Remsen, Nancy Augustine & her husband Dick of Sioux City, IA, eighteen grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren, one sister, Phyllis Streff of Alton, IA,
two sisters-in-law, Margaret Lehnertz of Redmond, OR & Agnes Konz of Alton, IA, one brother-in-law, Pete Konz & his wife Delores of Alton, IA.
     Preceded in death by, his parents, one grandson, Adam Krier, two sisters, Clarinda Wurth & her husband Pete, Miranda Wurth & her husband Bernie, brothers & sisters-in-law, Clarence Streff, Wally Lehnertz, Leola Ricke & her husband Omar, Francis Konz, Cletus Konz & his wife Mary, Bob Konz & his wife Bernice, & Ron Konz.
     Pallbearers will be Tom Krier, Todd Scheitler, Laura Sequeira, Brett Bacan, Jason Augustine & Maggie Krier. 
    Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren.
