Richard Claire Boever

Richard Claire Boever, 75 years old, of Remsen, IA died Thursday, December 22, 2011, at his home in Remsen surrounded by his family. 
      Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2011 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen with Rev. William McCarthy officiating and Deacon Rick Roder concelebrating.  Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Remsen. Graveside military honors will be conducted by VFW Post 3328 & American Legion Post 220 of Remsen.  Visitation will be anytime after 2 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 26, 2011.  There will be a parish rosary at 3 p.m. and a vigil prayer service at 7 p.m. followed by a Knights of Columbus rosary all at Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen.
      Dick was born on July 3, 1936 at Marcus, IA the son of John & Geraldine (Dickson) Boever.  He attended Holy Name Catholic School in Marcus and graduated in 1955.  He then entered the US Army in 1957 and was stationed in Fort Leonard Wood, MO until his honorable discharge in 1959.
      On Aug. 3, 1960 he married Carol Schroeder at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen, IA.  Dick then enrolled at USD in Vermillion, SD in 1960 majoring in accounting.  In 1964, he moved with his family to Sioux City, IA where he worked for Meier Painting and Decorating for 10 years.  In 1974, he began farming south of Remsen with his father-in-law, Ray Schroeder.  
      Dick was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Knight of Columbus and was past Grand Knight & then recorder for 27 years.  He was also past president of St. Mary’s High School Board.  He was a great bowler-winning a new car in 1962 on the Big Bowl Show.  He learned to bowl at an early age of ten, setting pins in Marcus for 5 cents a game.  He loved to play poker with his friends after KC meetings, visiting Las Vegas once in awhile and bowl in Reno in the National Tournament.  He loved farming, his children, grandchildren, and living 51 years with his “wonderful” wife.
      Survivors include his wife Carol of Remsen, five children: Dan & wife Kelly and their children Jessica & Justus of Rogersville, MO; Doug & wife Angela of Palmetto, FL; his daughter-in-law Cindy & children, Blair of LeMars, Hayley of Remsen, Andrea & Will Dole of Plummer Idaho; daughter Diann Parcelli & husband Mike & their children Anthony, Vincent & Dominic of Des Plaines, IL; son David & wife Denise & their children Lauren & Ryan of Bellevue, NE; daughter Dawn Hicklin & husband Randy & their children Riley, Joseph, Jillian & Carly of Sioux City, IA & step-grandchildren Melissa, Josh & Kayla of Sioux City, IA; his brothers & sisters: Jack Boever & wife Dorothy of Highland, CA; Kitty Galles & husband Jerry of Ardmore, OK; Gail Boever & wife Karen of Battlefield, MO; Sherri Willis of Frisco, TX; Tim Boever & wife Kathy of Blooming Prairie, MN; Steve Boever & wife Julie of Hartley, IA; Julie Mundell & husband Pete of Corpus Christi, TX; Deanna Beck & husband Jim of Sutherland, IA; Mary Ewaldt & husband Art of Story City, IA.
      Preceded in death by his parents; a sister Mary in infancy, brother Norbert (Nubs) and sister Margaret Larson.
      In Lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be directed to Hope Angels of Remsen, June E. Nylan Cancer Center or Hospice of Siouxland.
