Richard J. Bohnenkamp

Richard J. Bohnenkamp, 85 years old, of Remsen, IA died Sunday, March 10, 2013 at Floyd Valley Hospital in LeMars, IA. 
        Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, March 15, 2013, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen with Rev. William McCarthy and Deacon Rick Roder officiating.  Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Remsen.  Visitation will be anytime after 4 p.m. on Thursday, March 14, 2013.  There will be a parish rosary at 5 p.m. and a vigil prayer service at 7 p.m., followed by the Knights of Columbus & Catholic Order of Foresters Rosary all at Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen.
        Dick was born on Dec. 26, 1927, at LeMars, IA the son of Joseph and Alma (Cosgrove) Bohnenkamp.  He was raised in the Remsen area.  He attended country grade school and St. Mary’s High School, where he graduated in 1946.  He then farmed with his father and in 1950 started farming on his own south of Remsen.
        On June 19, 1950, he married Dorothy Kallsen in Struble, IA.  They were engaged in farming for 50 years.  He retired from farming in 2003 and moved into Remsen.
        Dick was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and Catholic Order of Foresters.  He served on the Farmers Elevator Board for nine years, and the Extension Board.  He enjoyed bowling, dancing, playing cards and many family dinners with children and grandchildren.  Dick was a hardworking faithful husband and father.
        Grateful for having shared his life include: his wife Dorothy of Remsen; six children, Julie (Dr. Dave) Elson of Sioux Falls, SD, Jerry (Ann) Bohnenkamp of Remsen, Suzanne (Dr. Rick) Rauschenbach of Sioux Falls, SD, Lori Harris of Kansas City, MO, Roger (Kay) Bohnenkamp of Remsen, Jim (Susan) Bohnenkamp of Marion, IA; 13 grandchildren, Dr. Andrew (Celine) Elson, Michael (Claire) Elson, Jennifer (Jason) Ruba, Jason (Natalie) Bohnenkamp, Laura Bohnenkamp, Elise, Olivia and Anthony Rauschenbach, Ryan Dolan, Christopher (BreeAnn) Bohnenkamp and Nicole Bohnenkamp, Rachel and Connor Bohnenkamp; 8 great-grandchildren; his brother, Thomas Bohnenkamp of Remsen; his sister Marjorie (Dave) Henrich of Tucson, AZ; one sister-in-law, Jeannette Bohnenkamp of Ames, IA; numerous nieces and nephews.
        Preceded in death by, his parents, one brother, Dr. Virgil Bohnenkamp, one sister-in-law, Kathleen Bohnenkamp.
        Casketbearers will be, Ryan Dolan, Michael Elson, Jason Bohnenkamp, Jason Ruba, Christopher Bohnenkamp, Dr. Andrew Elson, Mitchell Ruba.
        Catholic Order of Foresters Honorary Bearers will be, Larry, Jim, Roger & Randy Galles, Dennis Hansen, Don Konz.
        Knights of Columbus Honorary Bearers will be, Vernon Staab, Ervin Ahlers, Tony Delperdang, Lyle Schroeder, Dick Wurth.
