Richard Joseph Paulsen

July 11, 1954 — June 21, 2019

GRANVILLE, Iowa -- RichardPaulsen, 64 of Granville, passed away Friday, June 21, 2019, atAccura Health Center in Le Mars, IA, after a more than 20 year battle with Parkinson’s. 

Memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday July 8, 2019 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Granville, with Father Daniel Greving officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Visitation with family present will be Sunday from 4-7p.m., with a parish rosary and vigil prayer service at 5 p.m. all at the church. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service on Monday.  Services have been entrusted to Fisch Funeral Home & Monument of Remsen, Iowa. 

Rich was born July 11, 1954 at LeMars, Iowa, the son of Wilken and Florence(Roethler)Paulsen. He was raised on a farm south of Granville and received his education at Spalding Catholic School in Granville, graduating in 1973. He continued farming with his family until he was no longer able, due to Parkinson’s Disease. 

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Rich did not let this disease stop him from enjoying life.  He had a love of cars and drove his Mustang convertible until he was no longer allowed to drive.  Then he enjoyed having his niece and nephews drive him around in the Mustang.  Rich also enjoyed hunting, fishing off his boat, traveling, playing pool, collecting coins, playing pinochle.  His nephew Kevin would take him to the casino where he was very lucky.  Rich enjoyed riding along to pick asparagus.  He was often the first to spot a good patch. 

Survivors include his siblings, Ronald (Cheryl) Paulsen of Granville, Mary Jean (Jim) Nilles of Escondido, CA, Steve (Marilyn) Paulsen of Granville, Linda (Tom) Linden of Granville, Janice (John) Brooks of Alton, IA; and many nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; two siblings in infancy, James Edward and Rose Ann.
