Ronald “Ron” A. Niehus, 85 of Remsen, IA passed away Saturday, Jan. 30, 2016 at Unity Point Health - St. Luke’s in Sioux City, IA.
           
Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, Feb. 5, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen, IA with Rev. William McCarthy officiating and Deacon Rick Roder assisting.  Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Remsen, IA. Graveside military honors will be conducted by V.F.W. Post 3328 and American Legion Post 220 of Remsen.  Visitation with family present will be any time after 4 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 4, 2016.  There will be a parish rosary at 5 p.m., a vigil prayer service at 7 p.m. followed by a Knights of Columbus Rosary, all at Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen.  Services have been entrusted to the Fisch Funeral Home & Monument of Remsen.
           
Ron was born Jan. 22, 1931, at LeMars, IA the son of Joseph and Rose (Beelner) Niehus.  He was raised and educated in the Remsen area and graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1948.  He did carpentry work and helped his father with the family farm.  He enlisted in the U.S. Army Sept. 18 1952 until Aug. 19, 1954 serving in the Korean War.  He then returned home to farm.
Ron married Margaret “Peg” Coulson at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Sioux City, IA on May 30, 1956.
Ron was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and VFW.  He enjoyed spending time with his family and especially with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  He also enjoyed coffee at Mrs. B’s with his extended “family”.
                            
Survivors include; his wife Peg of Remsen; three children, Steve (Carolyn) Niehus, Kim Niehus Nacke all of Remsen, Karen Eggers of Gladbrook, IA; six grandchildren, Michael (Katy) Niehus of Polk City, IA, Carrie (Aaron) Weiler of Elk Horn, NE, Brian (Toni) Niehus of Sioux City, IA, Austyn and Abby Smith, Madisyn Eggers all of Gladbrook, IA; seven great-grandchildren, Harper and Henley Niehus, Brayden, Brycen and Bayla Weiler, Braya and Braxton Niehus; two sisters, Esther (Joe) Schmitz of Carroll IA, Carole Voss of Cherokee, IA; two sisters-in-law, Donna Coulson, Kathy (Bob) Deignan all of Sioux City, IA;  two brothers-in-law, Tom (Darlene) Coulson of Sioux City, IA, Bill (Sharon) Coulson of Tucker, GA; numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceded by: his parents, father and mother-in-law, Floyd and Ione Coulson, brothers-in-law, Randy Voss, Jim Coulson, Don Coulson, sisters-in-law, Coke (Bud) Dickson, Patty (Dean) Whalen, Mary Walker, Jan Beavers, three nephews and two nieces.
Casket Bearers will be his grandchildren and their spouses and also the great grandchildren and Mark Torrence.
Honorary bearers will be Kory Kroeger, Jerry Dunn and Ron Jones.
K of C honorary bearers will be Marvin Pick, Paul Pick and Ron Schmillen.
