Ruth E. Beck, 87 years old, of Granville, IA died Tuesday, May 18, 2010, at her home in Granville.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 22, 2010, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Granville, with Rev. Richard Ball officiating. Burial will be in the Holy Name Cemetery in Marcus, IA. Visitation will be anytime after 4 p.m. on Friday, May 21, 2010. There will be a parish rosary at 5 p.m. and a vigil prayer service at 7 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Granville. Services have been entrusted to Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen.
Ruth was born on Feb. 10, 1923, at Granville, IA the daughter of Frank & Ida (Kuhl) VanBergen. Ruth was raised in the Granville area & attended St. Joseph’s Catholic School for eight years. She worked in Sioux City, IA for a few years, then came back home to Granville to take care of her mother.
On Feb. 14, 1944 she married Richard Keffler at Granville. They farmed near Marcus, IA until Aug. 12, 1981 when Richard passed away. Ruth continued to live on the family farm until she married Jim Beck on Oct. 2, 2005. They resided in Granville until her death.
Ruth was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters & Catholic Order of Foresters.
Survivors include: her husband Jim of Granville; One daughter, Margie Kersten & her husband George of Hospers, IA; Two grandchildren, Richard Kersten & his wife Nikki of Granville, IA, Matthew Kersten & his friend Julie Sheibal & her daughter Jaslyn of Council Bluffs, IA; Two great-grandchildren, Drew & Andrea Kersten of Doon, IA; One sister-in-law, Kay Schmidt of Minneapolis, MN.
Preceded in death by her baby daughter, Mary Ann, Her husband Richard, five brothers, Pat & his wife Lolly, Willie & his wife Maureen, Harold & his wife JoAnn, Frank & his wife Florence & Dick & his wife Thelma VanBergen, three sisters, Myrtle Muehl, Viola Mousel & Mary Ellen Shearer, one sister, Margaret Couglin.
Pallbearers will be Richard, Matthew & Drew Kersten, Gary Mousel, Max Treinen & Chuck Schmillen
