Sandy Kay Schmid age 74 of Remsen, IA, passed away Saturday, March 13, 2021 at Floyd Valley Health Care in LeMars, IA.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 18, 2021 at Christ Lutheran Church LCMS in Remsen, with Pastor Garret Kasper officiating. Burial will follow at the Remsen Cemetery. Visitation with family present, keeping to social distancing restrictions will be 4p.m. to 6:30p.m. Wednesday at Christ Lutheran Church LCMS with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will resume 1 hour prior to the funeral on Thursday at the church. Sandy was born Aug. 1, 1946 at Le Mars, IA, the daughter of Delmar & Shirley (Ostert) Klaschen. She welcomed her second dad George Erichsen on August 21st, 1959. She was raised and educated in Remsen, she attended Remsen Union High School, graduating in 1965.
On June 12th 1965 she married Gary Lee Schmid at Christ Lutheran Church LCMS. After multiple moves the couple made the decision to move home and raise their children where they both grew up. Sandy worked at Mid-Sioux Opportunity for over ten years and then started Farm Kids Daycare where she loved and spoiled her eight grandchildren.
She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church LCMS in Remsen where she was a very active member within the community. Sandy was a loving wife, mother, and grandma. She loved spending time with her family, camping, gardening, and playing cards.
Survivors include her husband, Gary Schmid of Remsen; 3 children, Shelly (Jamie) Thomson of Remsen, Jason (Theresa) Schmid of Kingsley, Melissa (Brian) Juhl of Remsen; 10 grandchildren, Steve Thomson & special friend Sara Olson, Alex Thomson, Cassie Thomson; Tesa Schmid, Chris Schmid & special friend Kayla Alesch, Zac Schmid; Samantha Juhl & special friend Damian Frias, David Juhl & special friend Hannah Westra, Zachary Caraher and Jacob Ruhrer; 2 great-grandchildren, Oliver and Quinn; Her brother-in-law, Ted Nothem of Remsen; sisters-in-law, Lynette (Roger) Wilson of Remsen, Donna (Lanny) Nairn of Marlton, NJ, Mary Schmid of Herron Lake, MN; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by her parents, Delmar Klaschen, Shirley and George Erichsen; her in-laws, Fred & Irene Schmid; sister, Marcia Nothem, brothers-in-law, Lynn Schmid and David Schmid.
Casket bearers will be Steven Thomson, Alex Thomson, Chris Schmid, Zac Schmid, Dave Juhl and Damian Frias.
Honorary bearers will be Cassie Thomson, Tesa Schmid, Samantha Juhl, Zachary Caraher and Jacob Ruhrer.
