Sandy Augustine, 75 years old, of Remsen, IA, died Saturday, March 7, 2015, at Happy Siesta Health Care Center in Remsen, IA.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday March 11, 2015 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen with Msgr. Roger Augustine officiating and Rev. William McCarthy concelebrating. Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Remsen at 2 p.m. on Thursday. Visitation will be anytime after 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 10, 2015, there will be a parish rosary at 5 p.m. and a vigil prayer service at 7 p.m. all at Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen. Visitation will resume Wednesday morning from 9:30 until service time at the funeral home.
Sandy was born Jan. 21, 1940, at Iowa City, IA, the daughter of Donald and Phyllis (Warland) Thorn, her step fathers were Roy Jorgensen and George P. Nilles. She was raised in the Eagle Grove area and moved to Remsen. She attended Remsen High School graduating in 1959.
On Jan. 6, 1962 she married Tom Augustine. Sandy worked at Bedel Pharmacy, Happy Siesta, was a home decorator with Home Interiors and was employed at Wells Dairy where she retired after 25 years. She loved her music, shopping and dancing along with playing cards and bingo. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who loved spending time with her family. She could not do enough for them or her friends. She was a caring and giving person.
She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and church guild. She also served on the St. Mary’s Activity Board.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband Tom of Remsen; her children, Sheri (Gary) Moritz of Humboldt, IA, Caryn (Scott) Ruden of Remsen, Bob (Margie) Augustine of LeMars, IA, Julie Weiler and her special friend Scott Lauters of LeMars, IA, Ed (Erin) Augustine of Olathe, KS; 17 grandchildren, Kari (Chuck) Radack, Adam (Stephanie) Moritz, Justin, Brandon, Wesley and Nicholas Ruden, Sadie and Alie Weiler, step-grandchild, Bri Anne Weiler, Amanda, Jessica, Alex, Jeffery, Mitchell and Ryan Augustine, Emma and Brady Augustine; 2 great-grandchildren, Addison and Colten Ronfeldt; one brother, Philip (Val) Jorgensen of Rochester, MN; brothers-in-law, Msgr. Roger Augustine of Marcus, IA, Wayne (Kathy) of Remsen, Dick (Nancy) of Dakota Dunes, SD, Dan (Mary) of Seneca, SC, Mike (Janet) of Sioux City, IA, Dale Mousel of Alton, IA; Sisters-in-law, Kay Augustine of Remsen, Cleon Augustine of LeMars, Jo Augustine of Estherville, IA, Dode Konz of Alton, IA.
Preceded by: her parents, step fathers, three sisters, Sharon Hensen, Peggy Sanow, Royetta “Snookie” Jorgensen; mother and father-in-law, Joe and Alvina Augustine, two sisters-in-law, Clarice Mousel, Roberta Augustine, three brothers-in-law, Harold Hensen, Larry Sanow, Jerry Ralph and Bill Augustine, Pete Konz.
