Shirley M. Felts

Shirley M. Felts, 78, of rural Le Mars, died Saturday, Jan. 28, 2012, surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with cancer.
        Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2012 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Remsen with the Rev. Dan Greving officiating & Rev. William McCarthy concelebrating. Burial will be in the St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Remsen. Visitation will be anytime after 4 p.m. Mon. Jan. 30, 2012. There will be a parish rosary at 5 p.m., a vigil prayer service at 7 p.m., followed by a Catholic Order of Foresters rosary all at the Fisch Funeral Home and Monument in Remsen.
        Shirley  was born June 5, 1933, at Paducah, Ky., the daughter of Paschal and Tillie (Ruden) Wurth. She lived in Kentucky for 3 years when the family moved to the Remsen area. She attended Union Township school and Remsen St. Marys school. 
        Shirley married John L. Felts on Nov. 24, 1953, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Remsen. Together they ran the Felts Trucking business while raising 5 children.
        Shirley enjoyed her family and all the countless times together, especially those with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Faith and God were very important to Shirley while she attended St. Joseph Church of Neptune and most recently Our Lady of Assumption in Merrill. She was a member of the Neptune Alter Society and a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters.
        Her hobbies included making rag rugs, cooking, crocheting, gardening and her many flower beds. Shirley’s courageous hard fought battle with brain cancer took many twists and turns since 2010. Despite it all, her faith was steadfast and her attitude was positive.
        Survivors include four sons, Gary Felts of Kingsley, Rick Felts and his wife, Janell of rural Le Mars, Kevin Felts and his wife, Jackie of rural Le Mars, Keith Felts and his wife, Lisa of Sioux City; one daughter, Pam Heitmann and her husband Jon of Holstein; nine grandchildren, Jeff and Brandon Felts, Penni McIntosh, Jessie Kies and Dustin Heitmann, Colby and Austin Felts, Deianira and Seth Felts; four great-grandchildren, Ayden and Carter Heitmann, Kendyl McIntosh, and Brody Felts; 8 brothers and sisters; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
        She was preceded in death by her beloved spouse, John, her parents, and 2 brothers, Milo and Donald Wurth.
        Casketbearers will be Jeff and Brandon Felts, Penni McIntosh, Jessie Kies, Dusty Heitmann, Colby, Austin, Deianira and Seth Felts.
        Honorary bearers will be Brianne and Stephanie Felts, Derek McIntosh, Brandon Kies and Amanda Heitmann.
        Catholic Order of Foresters Honorary Bearers will be Bill and Chet Wurth, Al and Linda Willett, and Clarence and Jean Willett.
