Therese Marie Freking

Therese Marie Freking, 89, of LeMars, Iowa passed away Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2017 at Floyd Valley Hospital in LeMars, IA, as a result of injuries sustained in a car accident.

Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday Feb. 2, 2017 at All Saints Parish-St. Joseph Catholic Church in LeMars with Rev. Kevin Richter officiating and Msgr. Kenneth Seifried, Rev. Richard Ball and Rev. Terry Roder concelebrating. Interment will follow at the Calvary Cemetery in LeMars. Visitation with family present will be 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2017. There will be a parish rosary at 5 p.m. and a vigil prayer service at 7 p.m., all at All Saints Parish-St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in LeMars. Visitation will resume Thursday morning from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the church. Services have been entrusted to Fisch Funeral Home & Monument of Remsen.

Therese was born Feb. 12, 1927, at LeMars, Iowa, the daughter of Bernard and Elizabeth (Haverkamp) Heuertz. She grew up on a farm south of Remsen. She attended country school and St. Mary’s Catholic School in Remsen graduating in 1944. After graduation, she helped her dad on the farm and did domestic work for families that had new babies. While working for the Joe Freking family she met her future husband, Leo Freking.

On Aug. 24, 1948, she married Leo. They farmed until 1997 when they moved into LeMars. Over the years she worked at Nuebel’s Grocery, the Red Owl, Vance’s, Custom Interiors and Moeller Furniture. Leo died Sept. 21, 2005.

She was a member of All Saints Parish-St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Christian Women’s Guild, Catholic Daughters of America, church choir and was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, Eucharistic Minister and Plymouth Manor Auxiliary. She enjoyed antiquing, embroidery, quilting, sewing and playing pinochle.

Survivors include; daughter, Ann (Butch) Wente of Springfield, MO, daughter, Connie (Steve) Christensen of Granville, IA, daughter, Patty Freking of LeMars, IA, son, Paul (Sharon) Freking of LeMars, IA, daughter, Cheryl (Dave) Lorenzen of Waukee, IA; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sister, Shirley (LaVerne) Jaminet of Remsen, IA, brother-in-law, Marvin (Donna) Pick of Marcus, IA, sister-in-law, Shirley Heuertz of Wesminster, CO.

Therese was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Leo, two brothers, Joe (Marie) Heuertz & Frank Heuertz, two sisters, Mary in infancy and Rose Mary Pick, in-laws, Casper (Anna) Freking, four brothers-in-law, Greg, John (Mary), Joe (Mary) Ben (Helen) Freking, sisters-in-law, Caroline Freking, Mary (Leo) Haverkamp, Agnes (Ray) Waldschmitt and Frances (Lyle) Bohnenkamp.

Casket bearers will be Preston Freking, Mike Wente, Scott Wente, Austin Lorenzen, Tyler Lorenzen and Shannon Christensen.
