Thomas I. Pottebaum, 61 years old, of Alton, IA, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2021 at Orange City Area Health System in Orange City, IA.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m., Monday, Sept. 20, 2021, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton, with Father Daniel Greving officiating and Deacon Dan Goebel assisting. Burial will follow in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Alton. Visitation with family present will be 4-7 p.m. on Sunday, there will be a parish rosary and vigil prayer service at 5 p.m. all at the church. Visitation will resume one hour before the service on Monday at the church.
Tom “Goog” was born Aug. 10, 1960 at LeMars, IA, the son of Howard & Doris (Schwarz) Pottebaum. He was raised near Alton and received his education from Floyd Valley Schools, graduating in 1979. He worked with his father on the family farm then he had his own acreage where he raised cattle.
Tom was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton. He enjoyed socializing with his friends especially Zac De Haan and Carter Hanson.
Survivors include his mother, Doris Pottebaum of Alton; his siblings, Tim (Karen) Pottebaum of Sheldon, IA, Mike (Sheila) Pottebaum of Granville, IA, Kathy (Paul) Meis of Oyens, Iowa, Laurie (Gene) Krump of Worthing, S.D and Jim (Kris) Pottebaum of Alton, IA; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Preceded by his father, Howard, his grandparents and one nephew Alex Pottebaum.
Casket bearers will be Zac De Haan, Carter Hanson, Bob Reichle, David “Bear” Heddens, Leon Schwebach, David Newman.
