VItalena "Vitty" Marie Penning

Vitalena “Vitty” Marie (Thommes) Penning, 85 years old, of Granville, IA, died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2011, at Sanford Medical Center in Sheldon, IA.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Monday, Feb. 14, 2011, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Granville with Rev. Richard Ball officiating. Burial will be in the St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Granville. Visitation will be anytime after 4 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 13, 2011. There will be a parish rosary at 5 p.m., and vigil prayer service at 7 p.m., all at the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Granville. Services have been entrusted to Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen.
Vitalena was born July 7, 1925, at rural Remsen, IA, the daughter of, Leo & Marie (Wohles) Thommes. She was raised in the Remsen & Granville area. She moved with her family to LeMars, IA in the early 40’s where she graduated from LeMars Central in 1945. She continued to work as a secretary to Mr. Kluckhohn until 1947.
On June 9, 1947 she married Andrew Penning at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in LeMars, IA. The couple made their home near Granville where they lived their entire married life on the Penning family farm.
She was a member of St Joseph's Church, DCCW, Christian Mothers, St. Joseph's Ladies Guild. She loved making beautiful quilts, hand crocheted doilies and beautiful flower gardens.
Survivors include; Her husband Andrew of Granville; ten children,William and Nancy Penning of Granville, Steve Penning, of Ajijic, Mexico, Randy and Laurie Penning, of Minnetonka, MN, Mary and John Leonard of Le Mars, IA, Paul and Carole Penning of Houston, TX, Cindy and Dave Kinney of Sioux City, IA, Joe and Theresa Penning of Austin ,TX, Shelly and Don Kohoutek of Sioux Falls, SD, Greg and Gina Penning of Granville, IA, Jeanne and Jim Von Arb of Huxley, IA; 17 Grandchildren; 2 Step-grandchildren; 5 Great-grandchildren; 2 Sisters Katherine Dreckman & her husband Cletus of LeMars, IA, Dorothy Tillotson of Rockford, IL, 2 Sisters-in-law, Joan Thommes of Omaha, NE, Angeline Goebel of Worthington, MN.
Preceded by: her parents, One son in-law, Jerry Anderson, One brother, Bill Thommes, One sister, Leona & her husband Magnus Goebel, One brother-in-law, Don Tillotson.
Casket Bearers will be, William, Steve, Randy, Paul, Joe, and Greg Penning.
