Valeria Schroeder

Valeria Schroeder, 93 years old, of Remsen, IA, passed away Sunday, June 17, 2012 At Plymouth Manor Care Center in LeMars, IA.
        Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 20, 2012, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen with Rev. William McCarthy officiating & Deacon Rick Roder assisting.  Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Remsen.  Visitation will be anytime after 4 p.m. on Tuesday, June 19, 2012.  There will be a parish rosary at 5 p.m. and a vigil prayer service at 7 p.m. all at Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen.
        Valeria was born Feb. 7, 1919, at Wilmont, MN, the daughter of Dominic & Catherine (Kolbeck) Weiler.  At the age of 1 she moved to Ashton, IA and at the age of 12 to Remsen where she finished her schooling in the country school system and then did domestic work in the Remsen area. 
        On Nov. 29, 1939 she married Dominic Schroeder, the son of J.P. & Mary (Loutsch) Schroeder.  They made their home south of Oyens, IA where they were engaged in farming.  In 1944 they moved to a farm two miles west of Remsen. In 1981 they retired and built a new home in Remsen which they moved into in Nov. of 1981.  Dominic died March 16, 2006.
        Valeria was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church & church guild.  She was a past member of Catholic Daughter of America.  She dedicated her life to being a good wife and mother & was an inspiration to her children.  She enjoyed making quilts and playing cards.
        Survivors include; 1) son, Robert (Margie) of LeMars, IA; 10) daughters, Marlene (Jerry) Harpenau, Linda Schroeder, Diane (Jerry) Vaske, Pam (Mark) Poeckes, Peggy (Louis) Arens, Suzanne (David) Steichen all of Remsen, Janice Wurth & special friend Denny Borchers, Joyce (Dan) Ruden both of LeMars, IA, Judy (Ron) Pottebaum of Pierson, IA, Nancy (Robert “Butch”) Tentinger of Cleghorn, IA; 1)daughter-in-law, Margaret (Steve) Keffeler of Ouray, CO; 51) grandchildren; 116) great-grandchildren; 1) sister, Rosella Mueller of Omaha, NE; 6) sister-in-law, Therry Weiler of Remsen, Louise Beck of Sacramento, CA, Maureen Schroeder, Jeanette Ricke, Florence Schroeder, Joan Schroeder all of Remsen; 1) brother-in-law, Carel Connor of Remsen;
        Preceded by: her parents; 2) sons, Richard at the age of 21 & Michael in infancy; 1) son-in-law, Jerry Wurth; 2)granddaughters, Mary Freking, Angela Wurth; 1) great-grandson, Brandon Pearson; 1) great-granddaughter, Ashley Wurth; 2) brothers, Marvin (Octavia) Weiler, Gilbert Weiler; 2) sisters, Donna Connor & Verna (Floyd) Harvey; 7) brothers-in-law, Ralph Mueller, Clarence (Florence) Schroeder, LeRoy Schroeder, Ray (Virginia) Schroeder, Elmer (Hildegarde) Schroeder, Vernon Schroeder, Clarence Ricke; 1) sister-in-law, Helen (Alfred) Keffler.
        Casket Bearers will be:  Tim Harpenau, Tom Bunkers, Matt Meyers, Brad Wurth, Brian Schroeder, Mike Vaske, Chad Tentinger, Dustin Poeckes, D.J. Ruden, Patrick Arens, Matt Steichen.
        Honorary Bearers will be; her grandchildren & great-grandchildren.
