Wayne A. Delperdang

April 23, 1924 — March 15, 2014

Wayne A. Delperdang, 89 years old, of Spirit Lake, IA and formerly of Granville and Remsen, IA, died peacefully Saturday, March 15, 2014, at Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake, IA. 

            Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 19, 2014, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen with Rev. William McCarthy officiating and Rev. Brian Hughes and Rev. Terry Roder concelebrating and Deacon Rick Roder assisting.  Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Remsen.  Visitation will be anytime after 4 p.m. on Tuesday, March 18, 2014.  There will be a rosary at 5 p.m. by the Knights of Columbus and Catholic Order of Foresters and a vigil prayer service at 7 p.m. all at Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen.

            Wayne was born on April 23, 1924, on a farm north of Remsen, IA the son of Vincent & Anna (Murray) Delperdang.   He received his education in a rural school and at St. Mary’s High School in Remsen, graduating in 1941. 

            On May 17, 1949, he married Jeanette Lauters at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen.  To this union eight children were born.  The couple has lived at Remsen, Granville and Spirit Lake.  Wayne held a number of different positions before he began his employment at Farmers Savings Bank in Remsen in 1956.  In 1965, he joined Hospers Savings Bank and served 25 years as manager of the Granville office.  The bank later became American State Bank of Sioux Center, Hospers, and Granville.  Wayne was Vice-President and served on the Board of Directors until his retirement in May of 1990. After retiring, they moved to Spirit Lake in Nov. 1991.  Jeanette died Dec. 24, 2007.

     Wayne was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Spirit Lake, IA, Knights of Columbus and Catholic Order of Foresters.  He enjoyed a lifelong love of sports, consisting of hunting, fishing, bowling, golfing, snowmobiling, but in particular duck hunting.

     Survivors include: his five children, Helen (Jon) Dykstra of Hospers, Faye (Dave) Klein of Granville, IA, Donna (Daryl) Beckmann of Apple Valley, MN, Dan (Kolette) Delperdang of Spirit Lake, Mary Delperdang of Lakeville, MN; 12 grandchildren, Ryan Dykstra and his children Ayden and Chayley of Sioux City, Ric Dykstra of Waterloo, Jill Colling and her children Lincoln and Bohdy of Sioux City, Ken Klein of Fort Collins, CO, Katie Klein of Waterloo, Andrew Klein of Granville, Julie Beckmann and her daughter Madeline of Marshall, MN, Jodie Miller and her daughter Avery of Rosemount, MN, Melissa Beckmann of Hudson, WI, Kaela, Kelsey and Kourtney Delperdang of Spirit Lake; 2 sisters-in-law, Cloette (Eugene) Kieffer of Stamford, CT, Laura (Robert) Langel of LeMars, IA.

     Preceded in death by his parents, 1 daughter, Julie; 2 sons, Allan and Dean; 1 sister, Arlene (Martin) Peters;

     Casket bearers will be Ryan and Ric Dykstra, Ken and Andrew Klein, Melissa Beckmann and Kaela Delperdang.
