William Myron Evans

William “Bill” Myron Evans, 82, of Oyens, Iowa died June 23, 2021 at MercyOne Siouxland Medical Center in Sioux City, IA. 

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 28, 2021 at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Oyens, Iowa with Father William McCarthy officiating.  Burial will follow in St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Oyens.   Graveside military honors will be conducted by Wasmer American Legion Post 241.  Visitation with family present will be from 2-5p.m. on Sunday. There will be a parish rosary and vigil prayer service at 5p.m. all at Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen, IA.  Visitation will resume from 9-10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.  

Bill was born July 24, 1938 to Myron & Margaret (Masuen) Evans in Pipestone, MN.  His parents moved to a farm North of Oyens when Bill was 5 years old.  He attended grade school in Oyens, IA and graduated high school in 1957 from St. Mary’s in Remsen, Iowa.  After high school his family moved to Oyens.

Bill married Ruby Helen Knudson at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Newcastle, Nebraska on June 25, 1963. 

On February 18, 1956, Bill joined the National Guard in Le Mars, IA.  Bill served for 21 years in the Iowa National Guard and earned the rank of Sergeant First Class Company A 2d Battalion 133d Infantry.

Bill went into the trucking business when he moved to Oyens.  Eventually, he worked for Lundell Construction in Cherokee, IA and Terra International of Sioux City, IA.  After retiring Bill enjoyed working for the Ag Center in Le Mars, Iowa in the spring and for Fritz Dirksen in the fall.

Bill was a member of St. Catherine’s Catholic Church.  He also volunteered for the Oyens fire department and Oyens City Council.  He was a member of the Wasmer American Legion Post 241 in LeMars.  Bill enjoyed golfing, watching his grandchildren play sports, playing cards and spending winters in Apache Junction, AZ.  He was a fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes, Minnesota Vikings and the Minnesota Twins.  He served as an unofficial spokesperson for Hy-Vee chocolate chip cookies.

Bill is survived by his wife of 57 years: Ruby Evans of Oyens; two children, Curtis Evans of Remsen, Iowa and Dr. Lisa (Wayne) Remy of Clive, Iowa; 3 grandchildren, Emma Remy, Caitlyn and Cody Evans; his sister, Carolyn (Paul) Rael of Ossian, Iowa; brothers and sisters-in-law: Abby Evans Burkard, Marilyn (Dick) Bender, Domar (Sharon) Knudson and DeWayne (Carol) Knudson along with many nieces, nephews and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents: Myron and Margaret Evans, his brother: Donald Evans and father and mother in-law, Domar and Francis Knudson and nephew: Brian Rael.

Casket bearers will be Emma Remy, Caitlyn Evans, Cody Evans, Paul Rael, Kyle Knudson and Bryan Bender.

Memorials in Bill’s name may be sent to the Oyens Veteran’s Memorial, 355 Lincoln St. Oyens IA 51045.
