Agnes Ann Ruba, 84 years old, of Remsen, IA died Sunday, March 8, 2015 at Bavarian Meadows Assisted Living in Remsen, IA.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, March 12, 2015, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen with Rev. William McCarthy officiating, Rev. Terry Roder concelebrating and Deacon Rick Roder assisting. Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Remsen. Visitation will be anytime after 4 p.m. on Wednesday, March 11, 2015 there will be a parish rosary at 5 p.m. and a vigil prayer service at 7 p.m., all at Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen.
Agnes was born on Feb. 28, 1931, at Granville, IA the daughter of Aloysius and Elizabeth (Stoll) Kellen. In 1938 the family moved to Alton where she attended St. Mary’s Academy, graduating in 1948. She attended Briar Cliff College for 2 years receiving her elementary teaching certificate. She then taught in a rural Sioux County School.
On Nov. 10, 1953 she married Melvin Ruba at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton with Msgr. Nicholas Ruba officiating. They started farming and raised seven children. In March of 1995 they retired from farming and moved into Remsen.
Agnes was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and church guild. Past officer of the Catholic Daughters of America and Christian Mothers. She enjoyed playing cards, knitting, quilting and cooking. She took great pleasure spending time with her children, grandchildren and especially her great-grandkids.
Survivors include: her husband Melvin of Remsen; her seven children, Bob (Rose) Ruba of Webster City, IA, Suzanne (Dick) Miller, Mark (Julie) Ruba all of Remsen, David (Lynn) Ruba of LeMars, IA, Randy Ruba and special friend Patty Williams of Cherokee, IA, Roger (Darnell) Ruba of Kingsley, IA, Dianne (John) Orr of Burbank, SD; special daughter-in-law, Delores Ruba of Alton, IA; 17 grandchildren; 8 step-grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 15 step-great-grandchildren; six brothers, Lou (Jean) Kellen of Homer Glen, IL, Lawrence Kellen of Oyens, IA, Ambrose (Anne) Kellen of Coldsping, TX, Jerome (Perry) Kellen, Joe (Liz) Kellen all of Alton, IA, Arnie (Peggy) Kellen of Antioch, IL; In laws, Sandy Kellen of Ames, IA, Msgr. Nicholas Ruba of Remsen, Doris (Bob) Seuntjens of Kingsley, IA, Dorothy Ruba of Remsen, IA.
Preceded in death by her parents, granddaughter Elizabeth Ruba, sister, Dolores (Sylvester) Hansen, Brother, Dan, Sister-in-law, Doris Kellen.
Casket Bearers will be her grandsons, Jon, Dan, Doug, Tyler and Kyle Ruba, Reggie and Tim Miller and James Orr.
Honorary Bearers will be Bobbi Ann Koenig, Jackie Arens, Annie Miller, Kara Dennis, Kaitlyn Ruba, Kari Langel, Chris, Justin and Nick Frericks, Kelsey and Rachel Ruba, Heath and Jared Schweitzberger, Samantha Orr, Becky Manning, Johnny and Mandy Orr.
