Aloysius John Vaske Jr., 72 of Remsen, IA passed away on Sunday, Aug. 28, 2016 at Happy Siesta Health Care Center in Remsen.

Funeral services will be 10:30 am Friday, Sept. 2, 2016 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen with Rev. William McCarthy officiating and Deacon Rick Roder assisting. Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Cemetery in Remsen. Visitation with family present will be 4-8 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 1, 2016, there will be a parish rosary at 5 p.m. and a vigil prayer service at 7 p.m. all at Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen.

Al was born on Sept. 20, 1943 in Remsen, Iowa, the son of Aloysius and Josephine (Stodden) Vaske. He was raised in Remsen and received his education from Remsen St. Mary’s graduating in 1961. Al was a member of the Army National Guard from 1962-1968. Married to Susan Klein on January 13, 1968 at St. Mary’s church. Al raised his family in his childhood farm outside of Remsen, farming. He worked for a number of years at the Remsen Locker until his retirement in 2011.

Al has been a lifetime member of Remsen St. Mary’s Church. Al loved surrounding himself with his family and working in the garden. He always had at least one dog at his side.

Al is survived by his wife, Susie (Klein) Vaske and children: Richard Vaske of Remsen, Laurie (Todd) Gerrietts of Remsen, Angie (Keith) Renken of Remsen, Joe Vaske and his partner Joel Martinez of Galveston, Texas, Andrew Vaske of Remsen, Mary Vaske and Tim Mullally of LeMars, Connie (Eufracio) Taracena of Sioux City and Tom & Katie (Theisen) Vaske of LeMars. 23 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren; his sisters, Marian Holzman of Alton, Alvira Schwarz of Marcus, Rita Williams of Remsen, Theresa Reuter of LeMars and Sr. Rosemary Vaske O.S.F. of Dubuque. In laws: Jan (Nilles) Klein, Carol (Klein) and Don Ruba, Debbie (Bartholomew) Klein, Nancy and Rick Loehr, Marlene (Feeck) Klein, Gerianne (Roder) Klein, Fred and Elaine (Klein) Jungers, Alan and Lorelei (Bentz) Klein, Marilyn (Klein) Treinen, Marlys (Klein) Ohlendorf, Chuck and Joan (Reichling) Klein, Norma Klein. Several nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his parents, parents –in-law Elmer and Melinda Klein, brothers in infancy: Walter Vaske and Vincent Vaske. 4 sisters: Lucille (Victor) Zenk, Sr. Florence Vaske O.S.F, Sr. Phyllis Vaske O.S.F and Loretta Vaske. Brothers/sisters-in-law: Gordon Holzman, Marvin Schwarz, Darrell Williams, and Robert Reuter, Mavis and Don Kunkel, Elmer Klein Jr., Dennis Klein, Malcolm Klein, Tom Klein, Don Klein, Fred Treinen, Alice Reichling and grandchildren: Daniel Gerrietts in infancy, Alex Renken and Matt Gerrietts.

Casket Bearers will be Gary Holzman, Fred Zenk, Mike Schwarz, Phillip Renken, Dale Zenk, Drew Vaske.
